Sunwheel Dance
''Sunwheel Dance'' is the third studio album by Bruce Cockburn, released in 1972. It was remastered and released by Rounder Records in 2005 with two bonus tracks. For the most part, Cockburn's lyrics here continue to be primarily introspective and spiritual, bolstered by sparse acoustic arrangements. However, Cockburn does make his first foray into political commentary on the anti-war diatribe "Going Down Slow," which also marks the artist's first utilization of a full band on record. The album has sold steadily through the years, receiving a Canadian gold record award in 1988. Reception AllMusic music critic James Chrispell, wrote retrospectively "Cockburn has begun to show that he couldn't be categorized, and while that made listening to his music so enjoyable, he had a hard time at the retail level. Bruce Douglas Cockburn ( ; born May 27, 1945) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. His song styles range from folk to jazz-influenced rock and his lyrics cover a broad range of topics including human rights, environmental issues, politics, and Christianity. Cockburn has written more than 350 songs on 34 albums over a career spanning 50 years, of which 22 have received a Canadian gold or platinum certification as of 2018, and he has sold over one million albums in Canada alone. In 2014, Cockburn released his memoirs, '' Rumours of Glory''. In 2016, his album ''Christmas'' was certified 6 times platinum in Canada for sales of over 600,000. True North Records is a Canadian independent record label. History True North Records was founded in Mississauga, Ontario in 1969 by Bernie Finkelstein. By 1971, True North was producing albums for various Canadian musicians, including Bruce Cockburn and Murray McLauchlan, which were then distributed by Columbia Records in Canada. Eugene "Gene" Martynec (born 28 March 1947) is a Canadian musician, composer and record producer. Career Martynec first came to prominence as a guitarist in Toronto group Bobby Kris & The Imperials in August 1965. He left the group in May 1967 to form Kensington Market with singer/songwriter Keith McKie, bass player Alex Darou, and drummer Jimmy Watson. He played acoustic guitar, bass and synthesizer on Lou Reed's 1973 album ''Berlin'', along with providing the vocal arrangement on "The Bed". As a record producer, he won the Juno Award for Producer of the Year in 1981 for his work on Bruce Cockburn's "Tokyo" and Rough Trade's " High School Confidential". Reception In a retrospective review, music critic Thom Jurek, writing for Allmusic, called the album "A remarkably fresh and timeless recording... Overall, however, this album—like Sunwheel Dance that follows it—presents a far more mystical Cockburn. Eric Nagler (born June 1, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American musician and television personality known primarily for his work on Canadian children's television series such as '' The Elephant Show'' and '' Eric's World''. Biography Initially, Nagler was a folk musician in the United States, and in 1966 he marched through Mississippi with Martin Luther King Jr., encouraging people to register to vote. He married fellow musician Martha Beers in 1966. Due to their conscientious objection to the Vietnam War, the couple moved to Toronto in 1968 in order to “avoid” the draft. In 1972, Nagler returned to the United States to stand trial for draft evasion; he was acquitted.
