Sunnyside, Denver
Sunnyside is a city-center neighborhood in Denver, Colorado, located in the Northside of Denver, west of Interstate 25. The neighborhood is bounded by Union Pacific Railroad lines on the east, Interstate 70 on the north, Federal Boulevard on the West and 38th Avenue on the south. It is bordered by the Highland neighborhood on the south and the Chaffee Park neighborhood on the north. The neighborhood has a community group named Sunnyside United Neighbors, Inc (SUNI). List Of Neighborhoods In Denver
The City and County of Denver, capital of the U.S. state of Colorado, has 78 official neighborhoods used for planning and administration. The system of neighborhood boundaries and names dates to 1970 when city planners divided the city into 73 groups of one to four census tracts, called "statistical neighborhoods," most of which are unchanged since then. Unlike some other cities, such as Chicago, Denver does not have official larger area designations. Colloquially, names such as Northside and Westside are still in use, but not well-known. Since 2016, Community planners have used a set of 19 planning areas, all of which are groups of statistical neighborhoods, as part of the Area Planning process. History Of Colorado
The region that is today the U.S. state of Colorado has been inhabited by Native Americans and their Paleoamerican ancestors for at least 13,500 years and possibly more than 37,000 years. The eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains was a major migration route that was important to the spread of early peoples throughout the Americas. The Lindenmeier site in Larimer County contains artifacts dating from approximately 8720 BCE. When explorers, early trappers, hunters, and gold miners visited and settled in Colorado, the state was populated by American Indian nations. Westward expansion brought European settlers to the area and Colorado's recorded history began with treaties and wars with Mexico and American Indian nations to gain territorial lands to support the transcontinental migration. Geography Of Colorado
The geography of the U.S. State of Colorado is diverse, encompassing rugged mountainous terrain, vast plains, desert lands, desert canyons, and mesas. Colorado is a landlocked U.S. state. In 1861, the United States Congress defined the boundaries of the new Territory of Colorado exclusively by lines of latitude and longitude, stretching from 37°N to 41°N latitude, and from 102°02'48"W to 109°02'48"W longitude ( 25°W to 32°W from the Washington Meridian). Starting in 1868, official surveys demarcated the boundaries, deviating from the parallels and meridians in several places. Later surveys attempted to correct some of these mistakes but in 1925 the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that the earlier demarcation was the official boundary. Chaffee Park, Denver
Chaffee Park is a neighborhood in Denver, Colorado, located in the northwest corner of the city. Chaffee Park is north of Sunnyside connected via Zuni Street, and northeast of Berkeley connected through Regis via nearby Lowell Boulevard. Chaffee Park is east of Regis and south of Adams County. Chaffee Park earned Sustainable Neighborhood designation from the City and County of Denver in February 2014. Residents are represented by the Chaffee Park Neighborhood Association, which is a Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) with the city. There is another Denver city park named Chaffee Park that is located in Sunnyside (south of the Chaffee Park neighborhood). The main park in Chaffee Park is called 51st and Zuni Park, although commonly referred to as Zuni Park. Highland (Denver)
Highland is a distinct city-center neighborhood in Denver, Colorado, United States, bounded by West 38th Avenue to the north, a Union Pacific Railroad line on the east, the South Platte River to the southeast, Speer Boulevard on the south, and Federal Boulevard on the west. The Highlands is sometimes used to refer to two separate city-center neighborhoods in Denver; Highland and West Highland, although the two neighborhoods are distinct. Highland and West Highland are both in the area that is referred to as the Northside. Highland is located immediately northwest of downtown. Note that the Highland neighborhood association has a slightly different definition with the easternmost boundary stopping at I-25. Federal Boulevard
State Highway 88 (SH 88) is a state highway located within the Denver Metropolitan Area in the U.S. state of Colorado. Spanning , the highway travels through the City and County of Denver and Arapahoe County. SH 88 begins at Colfax Avenue ( I-70 Bus., US 40, and US 287) in Denver and heads south along Federal Boulevard until it reaches Belleview Avenue, where it continues east until it reaches Interstate 25 in the Denver Tech Center. It then continues along Arapahoe Road until it reaches eastern terminus at SH 83 (Parker Road) in Aurora. SH 88 is one of the original state highways commissioned when the state highway system was formed in 1923. It originally was a continuous route that went from Belleview to Broadway and then east to Parker Road.
