The Pipkins
The Pipkins were a short-lived English novelty duo, best known for their hit single " Gimme Dat Ding" (written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood), which reached No. 6 on the UK Singles Charts, No. 7 in Canada ( ''RPM'' Top Singles), and No. 9 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in 1970. They were Roger Greenaway, best known as a member of several songwriting teams, and Tony Burrows, a singer who had fronted several groups (often simultaneously) such as Edison Lighthouse, the Flower Pot Men, White Plains, the First Class and Brotherhood of Man. The Pipkins also released two follow-ups as singles, "Yakety Yak" and "Are You Cooking, Goose?", but without success. "My Baby Loves Lovin'" had been a hit for White Plains, whilst " Sunny Honey Girl" was a top 20 hit for Cliff Richard in 1971 on the UK Singles Chart. "Silvery Rain" is a song composed by Hank Marvin and first released by Marvin, Welch & Farrar on their eponymous debut album in February 1971. It was also recorded by Cliff Richard, who released it as a single in March 1971. His version peaked at number 27 on the UK Singles Chart. It was also known for periods as ''Disc Weekly '' (1964–1966) and ''Disc and Music Echo '' (1966–1972). Harold Jacob Spiro (25 June 1925 – 11 December 1996) was an English songwriter. He is best known for his co-writing with Valerie Avon, particularly the song " Long Live Love" (1974) performed by Olivia Newton-John, which was the UK's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1974. He won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Novel or Unusual Song for co-writing " Nice One Cyril". Valerie Murtagh (born Patricia Valerie Jenkins, 1936, Willesden, London, England, also known under the pseudonym Valerie Avon) is an English singer and songwriter, who was a member of The Avons. Career After singing with the Avons vocal trio in the 1950s and 60s, alongside her husband's sister Elaine Murtagh and Elaine's husband Ray Adams, Murtagh became a songwriter under the name Valerie Avon. Together with Adams and Elaine Murtagh, she wrote "Dance On!". Brian Bennett
Brian Laurence Bennett, (born 9 February 1940) is an English drummer, pianist, composer and producer of popular music. He is best known as the drummer of the UK rock and roll group the Shadows. He is the father of musician and Shadows band member Warren Bennett. Biography Bennett was born in Palmers Green, North London, England. Educated at Hazlewood Lane School, Palmers Green, London and Winchmore Council School, he finished school at the age of sixteen to play drums in a Ramsgate skiffle group performing for holiday makers.
