''Sung Lee'', professionally known as ''SungBeats'', is a beatboxer, live looper, and content creator based in New York City. He is best known for winning Amateur Night at the Apollo (Season 80), and the ''American Beatbox Championships'', Loopstation (2018). Sung’s original viral YouTube series “Making Beats for Strangers” has garnered international attention around the world. Background SungBeats was born in South Korea but immigrated to the United States when he was 9 years old. He first discovered the art of beatboxing by watching a video of Tampa's ''beatbox EFFEX'' when he was 13. Despite being discouraged by his peers, he continued to pursue beatboxing and won the annual talent show at Leonia High School as a freshman. ''Showtime at the Apollo'' (formerly ''It's Showtime at the Apollo'' and ''Apollo Live'') is an American variety show that first aired in syndication from September 12, 1987, to May 24, 2008. The Grand Beatbox Battle (commonly abbreviated GBB) is an annual international beatboxing competition hosted by Swissbeatbox. The competition holds multiple tournaments for different forms and categories of beatboxing which include: Solo (or Showcase), Live looping, Loopstation, Tag Team, Crew, Tag Team Loopstation, Producer and Under 18. The event follows a traditional tournament format, where competitors take turns performing on a stage, and a panel of judges vote on the winner. Defy Ventures
Defy Ventures is a United States-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that tries to solve the social problems caused by incarceration. The organization provides training programs to individuals with criminal histories, as a way of reducing recidivism. The organization was founded in 2010. History Defy Ventures was founded in October 2010 in New York City by Catherine Hoke (née Rohr's). In January 2012, it launched its first group of program participants, called entrepreneurs-in-training (EITs). Enrollment to women was opened later the same year.
