Sunfest (Gimli, Manitoba)
Sunfest was an annual rock festival based in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada, at Gimli Motorsports Park. The festival was held over a three or four-day period every August from 1990 to 1996 and featured predominantly Canadian rock bands. History 1990 The first Sunfest rock festival was held from August 17 to August 19 of 1990. The lineup for the festival included Bachman–Turner Overdrive, Doug and the Slugs, The Northern Pikes, The Tragically Hip, Queen City Kids, Kenny Shields and The Watchmen. About 21,000 people attended the festival. 1991 A second Sunfest was held the next year from August 16 to August 18. Gimli Motorsports Park
Gimli Motorsports Park is a multi-track motorsports facility located in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. The 95-hectare facility features a 1/4-mile dragstrip, a 1.3-mile road racing course, a one-kilometre karting track and a two-kilometre motocross track. The park hosts events for motorsports groups including the Winnipeg Sports Car Club, Drag Racing Association of Manitoba, Manitoba Roadracing Association (Superbikes), and the Manitoba Karting Association. History On August 6, 1972 the Winnipeg Sports Car Club organized the first road racing event on one of the original decommissioned parallel runways of RCAF Station Gimli which had closed the previous year in September 1971. 54-40 (often stylized 54•40) is a Canadian alternative rock group from Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The band take their name from the slogan "54-40 or Fight!", coined to express the unsuccessful expansionist agenda of James K. Polk's presidency, which was intent upon controlling a contested U.S.-Canada border area in the Oregon boundary dispute. 54-40 has had a successful career, with four of their albums being certified Platinum in Canada. The Pursuit of Happiness (TPOH) is a Canadian power pop group perhaps best known for their song " I'm an Adult Now". Beginnings Led by Edmonton, Alberta, singer and songwriter Moe Berg, The Pursuit of Happiness were launched in 1985 when he and drummer Dave Gilby moved to Toronto, Ontario. They soon met bassist Johnny Sinclair and formed the band, adding sisters Tamara and Natasha Amabile as backing vocalists. Joseph Kim Mitchell (born July 10, 1952) is a Canadian rock musician. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the band Max Webster before going on to a solo career. His 1984 single, " Go for Soda", was his only charted song on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, reaching number 86. Several other singles such as "Patio Lanterns", "Rock and Roll Duty", and "Rockland Wonderland", reached the top 20 in Canada. Early life Mitchell attended St. Clair Secondary School in Sarnia.
