Sundlaugin
Sundlaugin (, ''the swimming pool'') is a recording studio located near Álafoss in the town of Mosfellsbær in Iceland known for being the recording and rehearsal location of post-rock band Sigur Rós. The location was originally a swimming pool built in the 1930s which had been abandoned when Sigur Rós purchased it in 1999 and converted it and adjacent buildings into a studio. The band originally intended to record their third album, entitled '' ( )'', in an abandoned NATO tracking base in the northernmost mountain in Iceland, but after inspection decided it was too impractical. Shortly after they found the abandoned pool lot in a rural neighborhood in Mosfellsbær. They bought the lot and transformed it into a studio. The Album Leaf is an American musical project founded in San Diego, California, in 1998 by Jimmy LaValle. He is known for his use of electronics, synthesizer, and Rhodes piano. His performances often feature projected visual art. Mosfellsbær (, colloquially Mosó) is a town in south-west Iceland, east of the country's capital, Reykjavík. The town of Mosfellsbær is a 15-minute drive from midtown Reykjavík. The district includes the Leiruvogur cove, which forms part of Kollafjörður fjord. Three rivers empty into the cove: Leirvogsá, Kaldakvísl and Varmá. Mosfellsbær provides numerous opportunities for outdoor and leisure activities. There has been a systematic development of outdoor recreational areas for residents, their guests and tourists. Álafoss (; ''eel falls'') is a waterfall on the river Varmá in Mosfellsbær, Iceland. In culture A wool factory of the same name has adjoined the waterfall since 1896, when a local farmer imported machinery to process wool using the energy from the waterfall. During World War II, barracks were constructed there for British soldiers. Álafoss played a major role in the founding and growth of the town of Mosfellsbær. ''( )'' is the third full-length album from Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, first released in October 2002. It comprises eight untitled tracks, divided into two parts: the first four tracks are lighter and more optimistic, while the latter four are bleaker and more melancholic. The two-halves are divided by a 36-second silence, and the album opens and closes with a click of distortion. Lead singer Jón Þór Birgisson ("Jónsi") sang the album's lyrics entirely in "Hopelandic", a made-up language consisting of gibberish words. Flying Hórses (musician)
Flying Hórses is the stage name of Canadian musician Jade Bergeron. She grew up in Mirabel and Sainte-Thérèse and now lives in Ottawa, Ontario. In 2013, Bergeron began writing the music that would form her debut album, ''Tölt'', released in 2015. Recorded in Reykjavík at Sundlaugin, with Sigur Rós and Björk producer Biggi Birgisson, the album was heavily influenced by trips to Iceland. The album received little attention in the mainstream press, but the title track would go on to be nominated for the Best Canadian Music Video Prism Prize in 2018. Alexandre Richard also won an award for his direction of the video. Amusement Parks on Fire are a British rock band from Nottingham. The band was established by Michael Feerick in 2004, who wrote and performed all the instruments for the self-titled debut album. History The band began as the solo project of Michael Feerick in 2004, who wrote and recorded nine songs on a small budget with friend Daniel Knowles engineering the sessions. The self-titled debut album was released on Invada Records, the label run by Geoff Barrow of Portishead in 2004. A live band was put together including Daniel Knowles (guitar), Pete Dale (drums), Jez Cox (bass) and John Sampson (keyboards/samples). Mammút is an Icelandic rock band based in Reykjavík. Mugison
Örn Elías Guðmundsson, known professionally as Mugison (born 4 September 1976), is an Icelandic musician. Early life In 1977, Guðmundsson and his family moved from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður. In 1982, his family moved from Iceland to Cape Verde in Northwest Africa. His father was there as a part of a volunteer program teaching locals how to fish. Guðmundsson spent his childhood in Cabo Verde owning various pet monkeys and swimming as a pastime. He did not start school until the age of nine. From the age of 10 to 14, he lived in and around many parts of Reykjavík. At 14, he moved to Hrísey. During the winter, he was sent to a boarding school from age of 14 to 17. Julianna Barwick is an American musician who composes using electronic loops. Her first album, '' The Magic Place'', was released in 2011. Music career Barwick has said that her music is influenced by her participation in church choir while growing up in Louisiana. She composes with a machine to create electronic loops built around her vocalizing. She self-released her debut EP, ''Sanguine'', in 2006. The songs are wordless with vocal overdubs, vocal percussion, and improvisation. On the EP, ''Florine'', she uses a loop station and pedals to create minimalist repetition accompanied by layers of vocals and synthesizers.
