Sun Gro Centre
The Sun Gro Centre is a multi-purpose recreation complex located in the town of Beausejour, Manitoba. The complex features a 1,100 seat ice hockey arena, a curling club, an outdoor pool, and an indoor walking track. The complex opened in 2002 and was completed at a cost of $2.75 million. The project was primarily funded by the taxpayers of Beausejour and the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead. The federal government contributed $250,000. The naming rights to the facility were sold to Sun Gro Horticulture. The Sun Gro Centre is the home arena for the Beausejour Beavers of the Manitoba Senior Hockey League and Eastman Selects of the Manitoba Midget 'AAA' Hockey League. From 2007 to 2009, the Beausejour Blades of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League played out of the Sun Gro Centre, before relocating to Steinbach. Beausejour, Manitoba
Beausejour () is a town in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is 46 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, just west of the Canadian Shield and Whiteshell Provincial Park. The French name means "beautiful stay". The town is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead. Originally known as Stony Prairie, Beausejour was named in 1877 by Mrs H.W.D. Armstrong, wife of a government railway surveyor, when a telegraph office was installed there to serve settlers along the nearby Brokenhead River. 2011 Safeway Championship
The 2011 Safeway Championship (Manitoba men's provincial curling championship) was held February 9–13, 2011 at the Sun Gro Centre in Beausejour, Manitoba, Beausejour. The winning team of Jeff Stoughton would represent Manitoba at the 2011 Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ontario. Teams Thirty-two teams qualify for the men's provincial championship in Manitoba. Berths 1–14 represent the rural zones, berths 15–21 represent the Winnipeg zones. There are two separate bonspiels played earlier in the year representing the north and south called the Northern and Southern Bonspiels; these represent berths 22 and 23. Berth 24 is the winner of the Brandon Bonspiel played around the same time of fall as the Northern and Southern floating bonspiels. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is a Junior 'A' ice hockey league operating in the Canadian province of Manitoba and one of nine member leagues of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
