Summertime Girls
"Summertime Girls" is a single by American rock band Y&T. It was released as the first single from their seventh studio album '' Open Fire''. It later reappeared on their eighth studio album '' Down for the Count''. The song became the band's biggest hit, as well as their first and only single to chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at number 55. Music video The music video starts off with a homeless person looking through a garbage can at a beach, upon which drummer Leonard Haze emerges from the garbage pile. The video then cuts to vocalist Dave Meniketti and guitarist Joey Alves coming out of a small cave, and then to bassist Phil Kennemore emerging from the sand after being discovered by a man with a metal detector. Open Fire (Y&T Album)
''Open Fire'' is the first live album released by American hard rock/ heavy metal band Y&T, released in 1985 by A&M Records, produced by Scott Boorey and the band. The live material on the album was recorded at various venues in Greater London in early 1985, and during April 5–6, 1985, at the Keystone club in Palo Alto, California. The Keystone songs – "Go For the Throat" and "Open Fire" – were recorded by Guy Charbonneau in Le Mobile, a mobile recording studio. All of the live tracks were remixed at A&M Studios. The song "Summertime Girls" is a studio recording, produced and engineered separately by Kevin Beamish at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys. Reception ''Open Fire'' would prove to be a success, spending 17 weeks on the Billboard 200, and peaking at Number 70. Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads. Kevin Beamish
Kevin Keith Beamish is an American record producer, sound engineer, songwriter and mixer. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he became a naturalized American citizen at the age of nine. Classically trained on woodwind instruments, he secured a recording deal for his band "The Weathervane" by the age of 16. Crystal Recording Studios hired him to be a studio assistant; short for make coffee, answer the phones and stand in the studio all day and night, learning and helping. His entrance into recording was while assisting on Cisco Kid by War, and offering a few lines to help them when they were stuck. Their songs were long, cascading jams and they were short on lyrics. ''Down for the Count'' is the seventh studio album by the American heavy metal band Y&T, released in 1985 by A&M Records. The album marks the band's change to a lighter sound to find success in the hair metal scene. It contains the band's biggest hit "Summertime Girls", which charted at #55 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. This song had initially appeared as the only studio track on the band's live album, '' Open Fire'', released earlier in the year. The album itself peaked at #91 on the Billboard 200 on December 14, 1985. It was the last album with the original line-up of Meniketti, Alves, Kennemore and Haze, as Haze left the following year. David Alan Meniketti (born December 12, 1953) is the singer, songwriter and lead guitarist for hard rock/ heavy metal band Y&T. He has also released three solo efforts (including "Live in Japan"), one of which is more blues-oriented. He currently tours worldwide with Y&T. With the death of guitarist Joey Alves in March 2017, Meniketti is the last surviving member of the band's classic lineup (1974–1986), which also included bassist Phil Kennemore (d. 2011) and drummer Leonard Haze (d. 2016). Rick Friedberg (born March 11, 1944) is an American film and television director, screenwriter and producer, best known for his work with Leslie Nielsen.
