Weezer
Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. Since 2001, the band has consisted of Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, backing vocals), Scott Shriner (bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Brian Bell (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals). After signing to Geffen Records in 1993, Weezer released their self-titled debut album, also known as the Blue Album, in May 1994. Backed by music videos for the singles "Buddy Holly", "Undone – The Sweater Song", and "Say It Ain't So", the Blue Album became a multiplatinum success. Weezer's second album, '' Pinkerton'' (1996), featuring a darker, more abrasive sound, was a commercial failure and initially received mixed reviews, but achieved cult status and critical acclaim years later. Both the Blue Album and ''Pinkerton'' are now frequently cited among the best albums of the 1990s. Following the tour for ''Pinkerton'', founding bassist Matt Sharp left the band and Weezer wen ... It was released to radio on April 22, 2008 and released in digital form on April 24. The track debuted at number 19 on ''Billboard''s Modern Rock chart, and spent eleven weeks at number one. The song charted in many countries such as Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The video won a Grammy Award for Best Music Video at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. Writing and inspiration Rivers Cuomo, lead singer and guitarist for Weezer, wrote the song in reaction to a meeting with Geffen executives, who told the band members that they needed to record more commercial material. El Scorcho
"El Scorcho" is a song by the American alternative rock band Weezer. It is the first single from the band's second album, '' Pinkerton'', released in 1996. The music video features the band playing in an old ballroom in Los Angeles (as revealed by Weezer's ''Video Capture Device'' DVD), surrounded by light fixtures of diverse origin, flashing in time to the music. The name of the song supposedly came from a packet of hot sauce from Del Taco, labeled "Del Scorcho". The track failed commercially; several radio stations refused to play the song, and the video was not played on MTV. This is considered to be one of the causes for the initial commercial failure of the album. It was, however, extremely popular in Australia, and made it to #9 on the ''Triple J Hottest 100 chart'', the national poll conducted by alternative rock station Triple J for the year's most popular alternative songs. It was subsequently released on the 1996 ''Triple J Hottest 100'' ''compilation''. The song is a ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Say It Ain't So
"Say It Ain't So" is a song by the American rock band Weezer. It was released as the third and final single from the band's self-titled 1994 debut album. Written by frontman Rivers Cuomo, the song came to be after he had all the music finished and one line, "Say it ain't so". Cuomo made a connection to an incident in high school where he came home and saw a bottle of beer in the fridge. He believed his mother and father's marriage ended because his father was an alcoholic, and this made him fear the marriage between his mother and step-father would end this way as well. "Say It Ain't So" is widely considered one of the band's best songs. In 2015, ''Loudwire'' ranked the song number three on their list of the 10 greatest Weezer songs, and in 2021, ''Kerrang'' ranked the song number two on their list of the 20 greatest Weezer songs. In 2008, ''Rolling Stone'' ranked "Say It Ain't So" #72 on "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time." ''Pitchfork'' included the song at number 10 o ... "Island in the Sun" was not originally planned to be on the album, but producer Ric Ocasek fought for its inclusion. Only In Dreams (song)
"Only in Dreams" is a song by American rock band Weezer. It is the tenth and final track on their 1994 self-titled debut album. At slightly under eight minutes, it is to date Weezer's longest song. It is most noteworthy for its three-minute crescendo of the two guitars, bass, and drums, in which the dynamics gradually increase and the timbre builds up layers until the climaxing guitar solo at the end. Background The song's lyrics tell the story of a young man who wants to be romantically involved with the girl of his dreams. But because he cannot do so in reality due to how nervous he is, he can only fantasize about being with her in his dreams; hence the title of the song. In a 2010 interview with ''Rolling Stone'', Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo said, "I think most of our audience always thought it was a song about a girl when I’m really singing about my artistic process." In a 2023 interview with Chris Shiflett, Cuomo said the long instrumental portion of the song was inspired ... King Of The World (Weezer Song)
"King of the World" is a song by the American rock band Weezer, released as a single on January 14, 2016 for the band's self-titled 2016 album, along with a music video. Reception Bill Bodkin at Pop-Break opined "Hearkening back to the sound of the Blue and Green albums, and even some of the Red album, “King of the World” kicks ass with classic Weezer crunch." Bodkin also praises Rivers Cuomo's songwriting for the song, stating that he writes with "hope and feel-good vibes". Chris DeVille at Stereogum described the song as "eelinglike ’90s Weezer with room to breathe." Undone – The Sweater Song
"Undone – The Sweater Song" is a song by the American alternative rock band Weezer, released on the band's self-titled 1994 debut album. It was released as their debut single in 1994. Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has commented on the song, saying: Cuomo has also said that it was his attempt at writing "a Velvet Underground-type song," but later referred to the song as an inadvertent rip-off of Metallica's "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", with the band's metal roots showing through. Overview Originally, the band intended to insert various sound clips into the song, but were wary of the cost of licensing them. Instead, the studio version of the song features a spoken introduction by then bassist Matt Sharp and longtime friend of the band Karl Koch, as well as an "intermission" set of dialogue between Karl and one of the founding members of Weezer's official fan club and early supporter of the band, Mykel Allan. This dialogue is frequently ad-libbed during concerts and other live re ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Good Life (Weezer Song)
"The Good Life" is a song by American rock band Weezer, released on October 29, 1996 as the second single from their second studio album, '' Pinkerton'' (1996), as well as an EP in Australia. "The Good Life" was rush-released by the record company to try to save the commercially failing album, but was not successful. Content In 1995, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo underwent a corrective operation for his leg and was in a leg brace. The brace was debilitatingly painful and inspired the lyrics to the title song. The inside picture in the CD's booklet is an X-ray of Rivers' leg brace. The B-sides include "I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams" (featuring Rachel Haden of That Dog on vocals), a song once intended for Weezer's unreleased album ''Songs from the Black Hole''. The live songs were taken from a set played by the band at Shorecrest High School near Seattle. The school had won a contest and got Weezer to play during lunch in 1997. Background and composition "Back to the Shack" was written by Rivers Cuomo and Jacob Kasher Hindlin. The song was produced by Ric Ocasek. Cuomo wrote a majority of the song, with Karl Koch describing Jacob Kasher Hindlin's contribution to the song as "randomly singing out the title while hanging out on the couch listening to ivers Cuomostrumming the song. It doesn't take much to get half a songwriting credit." At one point, the song was performed with the bridge containing the lyric "we belong in the r ...
