Summer Biathlon
The IBU Summer Biathlon is a sporting event organized by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) which combines trail running or roller skiing and shooting sports, rifle shooting, or sometimes trail running and rifle shooting. It is modeled after the biathlon, IBU (winter) biathlon, which is an Olympic sport that combines rifle shooting with cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing. The Summer Biathlon World Championships have been held annually since 1990. Trail running was part of the world championships until 2009. International Biathlon Union
The International Biathlon Union (IBU; german: Internationale Biathlon-Union) is the international governing body of biathlon. Its headquarters were in Salzburg, Austria, until May 2020, when the Federation moved to Anif, on the outskirts of the city. It was rocked by a corruption scandal that broke in 2018, concerning the Russians bribing its top two officials. In 2022, due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, as invading nations, were suspended from all international biathlon competitions until further notice. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. The Target Sprint is a shooting sport, summer shooting sport discipline that combines running and air rifle shooting. It is treated as a race, with contestants running 3 x 400 meters with two rifle shooting sessions in between. Biathlon orienteering or orienteering shooting is a multisport consisting of shooting and orienteering. Moose Biathlon
Moose biathlon ( fi, Hirvenhiihto) is a variation of the winter sport biathlon comprising cross-country skiing, range estimation of paper targets resembling a moose and rifle shooting at a 10 ringed target using fullbore biathlon rifles. Competitions are held by the Finnish Hunters' Association. The sport was developed in Finland in the 1970s, and today competitions are held in Finland and Sweden with a goal to become a Nordic discipline. There are over 10,000 competitors in Sweden and Finland, and over 600 competitors compete at the yearly Finnish Championship. The skiing is performed classic style over a distance of 7–9 kilometers while carrying the rifle. Competitors under the age of 16 do not have to carry the rifle themselves. The places of range estimation and shooting are located along the ski course.
