''Summer 08'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music band Metronomy, released on 1 July 2016 by Because Music. Recording and release ''Summer 08'' is Metronomy's first album recorded solely by member Joseph Mount since their debut effort, '' Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe)''. Its title and release date was announced on BBC Radio 1 in an interview with Annie Mac on 11 May 2016, simultaneously with a release of the album's first single, "Old Skool". Collin Robinson of ''Stereogum'' called the song a "disco-leaning, 808-heavy, DJ-scratching throwback of a jam." The track "Mick Slow" samples most of the track "Weather the Windmill" from Mick Karn's first solo album, '' Titles''. Metronomy included Karn's track in their edition of the ''Late Night Tales'' series in 2012. Critical reception ''Summer 08'' received mostly positive reviews from music critics. Metronomy
Metronomy are an English electronic music group formed in 1999. As of 2021, the band consists of Joseph Mount (vocals, keyboards and guitar), Oscar Cash (keyboards, backing vocals, guitar and saxophone), Anna Prior (drums and vocals), Olugbenga Adelekan (bass guitar and vocals) and Michael Lovett (keyboards and guitars). Their music consists of vocal and instrumental electronic pop music. Mount also releases remixes under the name Metronomy, and has remixed many artists including Gorillaz, Sebastien Tellier, Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Goldfrapp, Young Knives, Zero 7, Ladytron, Kate Nash, Lady Gaga and Lykke Li. Robyn
Robin Miriam Carlsson (born 12 June 1979), known as Robyn (), is a Swedish pop singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. Late Night Tales
''Late Night Tales'' and its predecessor ''Another Late Night'' are the names of two related series of artist-curated compilation albums released by Azuli Records in the UK until 2009 when the independent record label Night Time Stories took over the series. Both series were started by the author A.W. Wilde. The tracks on the albums are selected and mixed by a diverse selection of artists asked by ''Late Night Tales'' to create the ultimate late night mix. Many of the albums end with a story track, read by famous English performers including Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Self, Brian Blessed and Patrick Moore. With the exception of Jamiroquai, Air, Bill Brewster, and Don Letts' contributions, each release includes a cover version recorded by the artist(s). ''Titles'' is the debut solo studio album by the English new wave artist Mick Karn, released in 1982. The album peaked at No. 74 on the UK Album Chart. History ''Titles'' was released in November 1982, shortly after Karn's band Japan had announced their intention to split up. Karn recorded the album in London during July and August 1982, and Japan drummer Steve Jansen and keyboard player Richard Barbieri both worked as session musicians on the album. The track "Sensitive" is a reworking of the Roberto Carlos song "À Distância" (both Carlos and Karn are credited as writers). It was originally produced by Karn with Ricky Wilde and released as a single in June 1982, though failed to chart. A new version of the track was recorded for the album, and it was re-released as a single in January 1983 when it peaked at No. 98. Andonis Michaelides (Greek: Αντώνης Μιχαηλίδης; 24 July 1958 – 4 January 2011), better known as Mick Karn, was an English-Cypriot musician and songwriter who rose to fame as the bassist for the art rock/ new wave band Japan. His distinctive fretless bass guitar sound and melodic playing style were a trademark of the band's sound. Early life Karn was born Andonis Michaelides in Nicosia on 24 July 1958. When he was three, his Greek-Cypriot parents moved with him to London, where he was raised. In his youth he began playing mouth organ at the age of seven and violin at the age of eleven, before he took up playing bassoon for the school orchestra. As a bassoon player he performed with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra in a concert in October 1972 which was broadcast by Radio 4. Annie Mac (born 18 July 1978), is an Irish DJ, broadcaster and writer. She hosted a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1, including BBC Switch and ''Future Sounds''. She also DJed in various locations, including hosting her AMP (Annie Mac Presents) Lost and Found venues in places like Ibiza. Personal life Annie Mac was born in Dublin, Ireland on 18 July 1978. After attending Wesley College in Dublin, she studied English literature at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. Annie lives in Queen's Park, London. She has a son (born May 2013) with her husband DJ Toddla T. She gave birth to her second child on 6 January 2017.
