is a Japanese former actress active during the silent film era in the early 1930s. Biography She was born in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Her sister Kiyoko Tagawa () was a dancer. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Yumeko Aizome
is a Japanese former film and stage actress. She was active from 1930 until 1965 and appeared in more than 115 films. Early life Aizome was born as in Inawashiro, Fukushima. Aizome's father died when she was 6 months old, and her mother died when she was 10 years old. After losing both parents, Aizome gave her possessions to her uncle and went to Tokyo with her older brother, where she went to elementary school. Career In July 1930, Aizome dropped out of high school to join the Shochiku Kagekidan musical theatre revue. Her first role was that of a pirate in a play titled ''merry-go-round''. She appeared on stage until she made her screen debut in Mikio Naruse's 1932 film ''Moth-eaten Spring'', now considered lost. In early 1933, Aizome appeared in Yasujirō Ozu's ''Dragnet Girl''. Naruse Mikio
was a Japanese filmmaker who directed 89 films spanning the period 1930 to 1967. Naruse is known for imbuing his films with a bleak and pessimistic outlook. He made primarily shomin-geki ("common people drama") films with female protagonists, portrayed by actresses such as Hideko Takamine, Kinuyo Tanaka, and Setsuko Hara. Because of his focus on family drama and the intersection of traditional and modern Japanese culture, his films have been compared with the works of Yasujirō Ozu. Dragnet Girl
is a 1933 Japanese silent gangster film directed by Yasujirō Ozu. Written by Tadao Ikeda, the film tells the story of a gangster and his girlfriend finding redemption through the actions of an innocent girl and her not-so-innocent brother. Plot Tokiko (Kinuyo Tanaka) is a typist and the girlfriend of a small-time gangster, Joji ( Joji Oka). A student, Hiroshi (Kōji Mitsui), joins the gang. When Joji begins to fall for Hiroshi's sister, Kazuko ( Sumiko Mizukubo), Tokiko decides to scare her rival away. However, Tokiko takes a liking to Kazuko and decides to reform.
