Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport ( id, Bandar Udara Internasional Sultan Syarif Kasim II) , is an international airport that serves the city of Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. The airport is often referred to as SSK II, SSK or Sultan Syarif Qasim II International Airport (SSQ II), and formerly known as Simpang Tiga Airport. The namesake of the airport is Sultan Syarif Kasim II (1893–1968), the last sultan of Sultanate of Siak Sri Indrapura, Siak and an National Hero of Indonesia, Indonesian National Hero. The airport serves flights to and from several cities and towns in Indonesia and some countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia. The airport area and runway is also shared with Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base, a Type A airbase of the Indonesian Air Force, TNI-AU (Indonesian Air Force). Sumatra is one of the Sunda Islands of western Indonesia. It is the largest island that is fully within Indonesian territory, as well as the sixth-largest island in the world at 473,481 km2 (182,812 mi.2), not including adjacent islands such as the Simeulue, Nias, Mentawai, Enggano, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung and Krakatoa archipelago.
