Sulaiman Daud
Sulaiman bin Daud ( Jawi: سليمان بن داود; 4 March 1933 – 23 March 2010) was a Malaysian politician who held seven cabinet posts in the Malaysian government between 1981 and 1999, including as Federal Minister of Education. He represented the constituency of Santubong (1974 - 1990) and Petra Jaya (1990 - 2004) in the Parliament of Malaysia and was a member of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was Chancellor of the International Medical University from 2005 to 2010. Sulaiman was born in Kuching, Sarawak and was a dentist including in the government hospital in Kuala Belait, Brunei before entering politics. He graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand. He died aged 77 of liver cancer at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on 23 March 2010, survived by four children. The Malay language has a complex system of styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the southern Philippines. The Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Kenyalang Sarawak (Order of the Star of Hornbill Sarawak) is the second highest order group (in the group of orders) of the orders, decorations, and medals of Sarawak. The order was instituted in 1970, and was redesigned in 1988. Two more ranks were added to the order: the 'Officer' in 1988 and the 'Companion' in 2002. The ''Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak'' (Most Exalted Order of the Star of Sarawak) is the highest state order in the state of Sarawak. It is conferred to those who rendered excellent service towards the development of the state of Sarawak and Malaysia. The Order was established in 1964, a year after Sarawak's independence with the formation of Malaysia. The history of the order can be traced back to 1928, where a similar order named Order of the Star of Sarawak was established by the White Rajahs. However, the revived order has no connection with the previous order, except for the similarity of the name of the order. The motto of the Order is based on the state motto and the current one was adopted in 1988. The design of the order ribbon was changed twice, first in 1973 and again in 1988. The Most Esteemed Order of Loyalty to the Crown of Malaysia ( ms, Darjah Yang Mulia Setia Mahkota Malaysia) is a Malaysian federal award presented for meritorious service to the country and awarded by the sovereign. The order was instituted on 15 April 1966 and gazetted on 30 June 1966. The order has three ranks.
