Sula () is an island group in the municipality of Frøya in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located about west of the island village of Mausund and about northwest of the island of Frøya. The Sula Lighthouse and Sula Chapel are both located on the main island of Sula. The main village area of Sula actually sits on four adjacent islands, connected by short bridges. There is a regular ferry stop at Sula with regular connections to the village of Sistranda and to other nearby islands. Trøndelag
Trøndelag (; sma, Trööndelage) is a county in the central part of Norway. It was created in 1687, then named Trondhjem County ( no, Trondhjems Amt); in 1804 the county was split into Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag by the King of Denmark-Norway, and the counties were reunited in 2018 after a vote of the two counties in 2016. Frøya is the westernmost municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Fosen region and consists of the island of Frøya, which lies north of the island of Hitra, as well several thousand other small islands surrounding the island of Frøya. Frøya (island)
Frøya is an island in Frøya municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island makes up about 63% of the land area of Frøya municipality. The island lies in a large archipelago of islands in the Frøyhavet sea, just northwest of the entrance to the Trondheimsfjorden. The Frøyfjorden lies to the south of the island and that separates it from the large island of Hitra. The island is rocky with heather-covered moorland as well as marshes and lakes. There are no naturally forested areas on the island. The highest point on the island is Besselvassheia, at above sea level. The southern and eastern coasts are relatively smooth, but the northern coast is very jagged with many fjords and coves. Sletringen Lighthouse lies at the southwestern tip of the island. Sula Lighthouse
Sula Lighthouse ( no, Sula fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Frøya in Trøndelag county, Norway. The lighthouse is located on the island of Sula. The lighthouse was originally built here in 1793 and another in 1804. The current tower was built in 1909. It is part of a series of lighthouses along the Froan islands in Frøya including the Finnvær Lighthouse, Vingleia Lighthouse, and Halten Lighthouse. It is lit from July 21 until May 16 each year. It is not lit during the summer due to the midnight sun of the region. History The first light at Sula was built in 1793. The present lighthouse was completed in 1909 and it was automated in 1974. Sula Chapel ( no, Sula kapell) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Frøya municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the island of Sula. It is one of several churches for the Frøya parish which is part of the Orkdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1925 using plans drawn up by the architect Martin Pettersen. The church seats about 200 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1589, but the church was likely first established during the 12th century.
