2013 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Election
Legislative Assembly elections were held in the Indian state of Rajasthan on 1 December 2013. Results were announced on 8 December. The incumbent ruling party Indian National Congress, led by the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, lost the elections to Vasundhara Raje-led BJP, who was being touted as the next incumbent. Pre-poll surveys Election Polling was held on 1 December in 199 assembly seats out of 200 seats. Churu constituency polling was postponed to 13 December due to death of BSP candidate Jagdish Meghwal. Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) along with EVMs was used in 1 assembly seat in Rajasthan elections. There were 2,087 candidates including 166 women and one eunuch candidate. 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Election
The Indian National Congress became the single largest party with 100 seats, short of majority by 1 seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 73 seats, much lower compared to the previous election in which it won an absolute majority of 163 seats. Bhanwarlal Meghwal
Bhanwarlal Meghwal (19 November 1948 – 16 November 2020) was an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress. He served as the Cabinet Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in Government of Rajasthan. He also served as the Education Minister in the Government of Rajasthan. He was a Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly constituency Sujangarh Churu, Rajasthan, serving on 5 different occasions. Meghwal died on 16 November 2020 after a long illness and brain haemorrhage at the age of 72. Shanno Devi (born 1 June 1901) was an Indian politician was the first woman speaker of a State Assembly in India. She was member of the Indian National Congress from the state of Punjab. She was the speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 6 December 1966 to 17 March 1967, and the deputy speakers of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 19 March 1962 to 31 October 1966.
