Suicide Alley
"Suicide Alley" is the debut single by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was self-financed and released in 1988, while they were still an unsigned act. Content The sleeve is highly reminiscent of The Clash's eponymous debut album, and was photographed and designed by future guitarist-lyricist Richey Edwards. Around a third of the copies were released in a plain sleeve, and a handful featured handmade covers with glued-on newspaper cuttings, which were assembled by Edwards. Musically, the influence of The Clash, The Skids and other late-70s punk rock bands is evident – the title track bears a strong resemblance to The Clash's 1978 single "Tommy Gun". B-side "Tennessee" was later re-recorded and featured on the band's debut album ''Generation Terrorists''. Manic Street Preachers
Manic Street Preachers, also known simply as the Manics, are a Welsh Rock music, rock band formed in Blackwood, Caerphilly, Blackwood in 1986. The band consists of cousins James Dean Bradfield (lead vocals, lead guitar) and Sean Moore (musician), Sean Moore (drums, percussion, soundscapes), plus Nicky Wire (bass guitar, lyrics). They form a key part of the 1990s Welsh Cool Cymru cultural movement. Following the release of their debut single "Suicide Alley", Manic Street Preachers were joined by Richey Edwards as co-lyricist and rhythm guitarist, the band became as a quartet. The band's early albums were in a Punk rock, punk vein, eventually broadening to a greater alternative rock sound, whilst retaining a left-wing politics, leftist political outlook. Their early combination of androgynous glam rock, glam imagery and lyrics about "culture, alienation, boredom and despair" gained them a loyal following. Little Baby Nothing
"Little Baby Nothing" is a song recorded by Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers for their debut studio album, ''Generation Terrorists'' (1992). It was released on 9 November 1992 by Columbia Records as the sixth and final single from the album. The song features guest vocals by American actress and singer Traci Lords. Content "Little Baby Nothing" features vocals by former pornographic actress Traci Lords. The song is about the sexual exploitation of a woman, and Lords agreed to a duet with the band's singer-lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield. Bradfield said: "we needed somebody, a symbol, a person that could actually symbolize the lyrics and justify them to a certain degree. Traci was more than happy to do it. She saw the lyrics, and she had an immediate affinity with them. It was definitely easy to incorporate her personality into the lyrics. Steven Wells
Steven Wells (10 May 1960 – 24 June 2009) was a British journalist, author, comedian and punk poet born in Swindon, Wiltshire. He was best known for ranting poetry and his provocative, unapologetic music journalism. In June 2006, he wrote in the ''Philadelphia Weekly'' about his treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. After being in remission for a short time, he was diagnosed with enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma in January 2009 and died on 24 June 2009 in Philadelphia. Career Wells was born in Swindon but moved to Bradford when young. The son of a company director, he attended Hanson comprehensive school in Bradford, but left with minimal qualifications in 1977 and later worked in a factory and as a bus conductor. It was at this time that he became involved with punk rock, including the radical socialist Leeds art-punk band The Mekons. The Business were an English punk band formed in 1979 in Lewisham, South London, England. The band lasted for four decades until their frontman Micky Fitz died from cancer in December 2016. ''National Treasures – The Complete Singles'' is a compilation album by the Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers, released on 31 October 2011. It is the band's third compilation album, after '' Forever Delayed: Manic Street Preachers, The Greatest Hits'' (2002), and the B-sides/rarities collection ''Lipstick Traces (A Secret History of Manic Street Preachers)'' (2003). The compilation features one new recording, a cover of The The's " This Is the Day", which was issued as a single on 18 September 2011. The compilation reached number 10 on the UK Album Chart in November 2011. Background ''National Treasures'' includes most of the band's singles from 1991's "Motown Junk" to 2011's " This Is the Day". Despite the "complete singles" title, ''National Treasures'' does not contain every Manic Street Preachers single.
