"Sugar Hill" is the debut single by American rapper AZ. It was released on June 20, 1995 via EMI and is from his debut studio album '' Doe or Die''. Recording sessions took place at Chung King Studios and Electric Lady Studios in New York. Produced by L.E.S., the song samples Juicy's "Sugar Free". Miss Jones sung the chorus and provided backing vocals. The single peaked at number 25 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number 67 on the UK Singles Chart, making it the rapper's highest charting song. Anthony Cruz (born March 9, 1972), better known by his stage name AZ, is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He is known for being a longtime and frequent music partner of East Coast rapper Nas and also a member of hip hop group The Firm alongside Nas, Foxy Brown, Cormega and Nature. Online magazine About.com listed AZ as the "Most Underrated apperof All Time". AZ also made it onto the sites' "Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987–2007)", where he was reiterated as "arguably the most underrated lyricist ever." Peter O. Phillips (born June 21, 1970), better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ and rapping, rapper. Juicy was an American musical duo consisting of siblings Jerry Barnes and Katreese Barnes. The group is best known for the songs "Sugar Free" and ''Beat Street'' feature song "Beat Street Strut". Career Their debut single "Don't Cha Wanna" was released in 1982 by Arista Records. In the same year they also released their first eponymous album, which made it into Billboard R&B chart the next year.
