Suedberg is an unincorporated community in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. Geography Suedberg is located in Pine Grove Township, just above Swatara State Park along Pennsylvania Route 443, also known as Suedberg Road. The Suedberg Fossil Site is located here. Mill Creek enters the Swatara Creek at Suedberg. Mill Creek, along with its branches, is impounded by the Siegrist Dam to create the Lebanon Reservoir. The Lebanon Reservoir serves as the primary water supply of Lebanon. History Suedberg was settled as Mifflin. A post office called Mifflin was established in 1871 and closed in 1882. In 1894, it opened and renamed to Suedberg and remained in operation until 1934. The Suedberg Church of God was established in 1870 or 1871, under the pastorate of Elder Israel Hay, of Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania. Union Canal (Pennsylvania)
The Union Canal was a towpath canal that existed in southeastern Pennsylvania in the United States during the 19th century. First proposed in 1690 to connect Philadelphia with the Susquehanna River, it ran approximately 82 mi from Middletown on the Susquehanna below Harrisburg to Reading on the Schuylkill River. Construction began in 1792 during the George Washington Administration, but financial difficulties delayed its completion until 1828. Called the "Golden Link," it provided a critical early transportation route for shipping anthracite coal and lumber eastward to Philadelphia. Anthracite, also known as hard coal, and black coal, is a hard, compact variety of coal that has a submetallic luster. The Swatara Furnace is a historic iron furnace and 200-acre national historic district located along Mill Creek, a tributary of the Swatara Creek in Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The first charcoal furnace to be erected in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, the Swatara Furnace and its related buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Conrail , formally the Consolidated Rail Corporation, was the primary Class I railroad in the Northeastern United States between 1976 and 1999. The trade name Conrail is a portmanteau based on the company's legal name. Lebanon And Tremont Branch (Reading Railroad)
The Lebanon and Tremont Branch of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad was a railroad line in Lebanon and Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, built to tap the coal fields in the West End of Schuylkill County and send coal southward to Lebanon. Origins The northern portion of the Lebanon & Tremont came from the Good Spring Railroad, which was incorporated in 1861 or 1863, but was not organized until March 26, 1869. It was controlled by the Reading Company (RDG) which transferred to it the property of the Swatara Railroad in 1863, giving it a line from Lorberry Junction to Donaldson via Tremont. In 1868, it was extended from Donaldson to Brookside. Fredericksburg is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, United States.
