Sud-Ouest Borough Council
The Sud-Ouest borough council is the local governing body of Le Sud-Ouest, a borough in Montreal. The council consists of five members: the borough mayor (who also serves as a Montreal city councillor), two Montreal city councillors elected for Le Sud-Ouest's electoral districts, and two borough councillors elected for the same districts. Le Sud-Ouest
Le Sud-Ouest ( en, "the southwest") is a borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Geography Le Sud-Ouest is an amalgam of several neighbourhoods with highly distinct histories and identities, mainly with working-class and industrial origins, grouped around the Lachine Canal. These include Saint-Henri, Little Burgundy, and Griffintown to the north of the canal, and Ville-Émard, Côte-Saint-Paul, and Pointe-Saint-Charles to the south. Located southwest of downtown Montreal (hence the name), the borough is bordered to the northwest by Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, to the northeast by the Ville-Marie borough, to the south by the borough of Verdun, to the west by the borough of LaSalle and the town of Montreal West, and to the north by the city of Westmount. Benoit Dorais
Benoit Dorais is a city councillor from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has served as the borough mayor of Le Sud-Ouest since 2009. From his first election to 2013, Dorais was a member of Vision Montreal, before joining Coalition Montréal in 2013 and Projet Montréal prior to the 2017 municipal election. Dorais was born and raised in the Saint-Henri neighbourhood. Prior to his election as city councillor, Dorais served as a political staff member to former Bloc Québécois MP Thierry St-Cyr. He has also served as a commissioner with the Commission scolaire de Montréal since 2007. He holds a university degree in philosophy and social ethics. Following Marcel Côté's death on May 26, 2014, Dorais became leader of Coalition Montreal. Projet Montréal
Projet Montréal (officially Projet Montréal - Équipe Valérie Plante) is a progressive, environmentalist municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 2004, it is led by Valérie Plante, and holds a majority of seats on Montreal City Council. Origins Projet Montréal was created by environmental activists in May 2004. Electoral performance Richard Bergeron was the party's first mayoral candidate. He was elected to the City Council in 2005 and gathered 8.53% of the vote for Mayor.
