"Success" is a song by British band Sigue Sigue Sputnik released in November 1988 as the lead single from their second album ''Dress for Excess''. It peaked at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. Background and recording Following the success of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's debut album '' Flaunt It'' in 1986, the record label wanted a new hit single. A cover of David Bowie's " Rebel Rebel" was touted as a possibility for release in January 1987. However, this was scrapped after, according to Tony James, lead singer Martin Degville "managed to come up with the worst vocal I had ever heard" during recording. After this, the band decided to stick to original material, and the beginnings of "Success" started to come together. Sham 69
Sham 69 are an English punk rock band that formed in Hersham in Surrey in 1975. They were one of the most successful punk bands in the United Kingdom, achieving five top 20 singles, including "If the Kids Are United" and "Hurry Up Harry". The group's popularity saw them perform on the BBC’s ''Top of the Pops'', and they appeared in the rockumentary film, ''D.O.A.''. Brian Duffy (15 June 193331 May 2010) was an English photographer and film producer, best remembered for his fashion and portrait photography of the 1960s and 1970s. Early life Brian Duffy was born to Irish parents in London in 1933. During World War II he was evacuated with his two brothers and sister to Kings Langley where he was taken in by the actors Roger Livesey and Ursula Jeans. After a few weeks, his mother, unhappy about her four children being split up from the family insisted they all return to London. When the bombing in London became intense they were evacuated for a second time to Wales but returned to London having lived on a remote farm for a month. Simon John Charles Le Bon (born 27 October 1958) is a British singer. He is best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the new wave band Duran Duran and its offshoot Arcadia. A scratch vocal is a vocal performance that a singer records to provide a reference track that music producers and audio engineers can use as they craft other pieces of the recorded song. Most of the time, the singer ultimately re-records the vocal performance after production is complete. Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978.
