Suburbs Of The Gold Coast
There are eighty-one suburbs in the City of Gold Coast, a local government area in Queensland, Australia. The local government area has been amended several times since its creation in 1948, most dramatically by its amalgamation in 1994 with the Shire of Albert, and losing a section centred on Beenleigh north of the Albert River to Logan City in March 2008. Fifty-two are gazetted as suburbs and twenty-nine as localities. Many suburbs have been established on reclaimed land including saltmarshes, mangroves and tidal flats. Some of these suburbs have developed extensive canal waterways. There are many shopping centres on the Gold Coast. Broadbeach is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Broadbeach had a population of 5,514 people. Geography Development in the area today mostly incorporates low rise structures, consisting of single bedroom houses and apartment blocks. Much of the suburb consists of canal waterways, including Lake Intrepid that are linked to the Nerang River. Bilinga () is a southern coastal suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Bilinga had a population of 1,804 people. It is on the border with New South Wales. Geography Bilinga is bounded by Boyd Street to the north-west, the Coral Sea to the east, and the border with New South Wales to the west. Biggera Waters is a coastal suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Biggera Waters had a population of 8,534 people. Geography Biggera Waters is located on the western side of the Broadwater. Beyond the Broadwater are South Stradbroke Island, Wave Break Island () and The Spit at Main Beach. Ashmore is an inner city suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Ashmore had a population of 11,910 people. History In October 1887, in the area now known as Ashmore and Benowa, 5 subdivisions comprising the Benowa Estate and Plantation on the Nerang River were advertised to be auctioned by James R. Dickson. A map advertising the auction states the Estate was located 4 miles to Southport bound by a good road on one side and bound by the navigable Nerang River on the other side.
