Suburbio
''Suburb'' (Spanish: ''Suburbio'') is a 1951 Argentine drama film directed by León Klimovsky and starring Pedro López Lagar, Fanny Navarro and Zoe Ducós. The film portrays life in one of the poorer neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. León Klimovsky
León Klimovsky (16 October 1906 – 8 April 1996) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer. Biography A trained dentist, born in Buenos Aires, his real passion was always the cinema. He pioneered Argentine cultural movement known as cineclub and financed the first movie theater to show ''art movies''. He also founded Argentina's first film club in 1929. After participating as scriptwriter and assistant director of 1944's ''Se abre el abismo'', he filmed his first movie, an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's ''The Player''. He also worked on adaptations of Alexandre Dumas' ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' and Ernesto Sabato's ''The Tunnel''. During the 1950s, Klimovsky settled in Spain, where he became a full-time "professional" director. He directed many Spaghetti Westerns, Euro War and ''exploitation films'', filming in Mexico, Italy, Spain and Egypt. Fanny Navarro (1 June 1920 - 18 March 1971) was an Argentine actress. She starred in films such ''Melodías porteñas'' (1937), '' Doce mujeres'' (1939), '' Ambición'' (1939), '' El hijo del barrio'' (1940), '' Hogar, dulce hogar'' (1941), '' Dos ángeles y un pecador'' (1945), ''Marihuana'' (1950), '' Deshonra'' (1952), '' Marta Ferrari'' (1956) and '' La Calesita'' (1969). José Maurer
José Maurer ( he, יוסף מאורער; 6 May 1906 – 23 May 1968) was an Israeli-Argentine actor. He was regarded as one of the greatest figures in Yiddish theatre. Early life He was born Yoshe Maurer Neumann in the town of Boryslav, then a thriving Oil town in Galicia, Austro-Hungarian Empire. Maurer was the son of the local cobbler, and known as an amateur violinist, actor and singer. Career When the famous Vilnius Jewish Theatre (Vilna Troupe), under the direction of Zygmund Turkow visited Boryslav in 1922, the 16-year-old Yoshe was offered a minor role. Two weeks later, as the Theatre left, so did Yoshe, never to return to his home town. As a member of this famous Yiddish Theatre he toured Poland and Romania until 1927, when he emigrated to Argentina. In Buenos Aires he became one of the leading actors in the Jewish Yiddish Theatre, playing along such renowned actors as Joseph Buloff, Maurice Schwartz and Jacob Ben-Ami.
