Subliminal Sandwich
''Subliminal Sandwich'' is a 1996 double album released by Meat Beat Manifesto on Interscope Records. The album is more experimental than the group's prior material, composed of lengthier pieces that incorporate more ambient textures and drones and fewer samples or defined song structures. ''Subliminal Sandwich'' was composed during Meat Beat Manifesto's 1993 tour supporting their 1992 album ''Satyricon'' and would have been released in 1994 or 1995 if not for legal tangles with the band's Belgian label Play It Again Sam. Two singles were released from the album, a version of World Domination Enterprises' "Asbestos Lead Asbestos" and "Transmission". In 2015, ''Fact Magazine'' ranked the album at number 47 in its list of "The 50 Best Trip-Hop Albums of All Time," saying "it remains an interesting offering, drawing links between trip-hop, dub, industrial and ambient with a touch of psychedelia." Meat Beat Manifesto, often shortened as Meat Beat, Manifesto or MBM, is an electronic music group originally consisting of Jack Dangers and Jonny Stephens that was formed in 1987 in Swindon, United Kingdom. The band, fronted by Dangers (the only permanent member), has proven versatile over the years, experimenting with techno, breakbeat, industrial, dub and jazz fusion while touring the world and influencing major acts such as Nine Inch Nails, the Chemical Brothers and the Prodigy. ''Muzik'' was a British dance music magazine published by IPC Media from June 1995 to August 2003. ''Muzik'' was created by two former ''Melody Maker'' journalists, Push and Ben Turner. Push was the editor of ''Muzik'' from its launch until he left the magazine in 1998, at which point Turner took over as editor. The title was subsequently edited by Conor McNicholas, who went on to edit ''NME''. Aimed at serious dance music fans rather than weekend clubbers, ''Muzik''s writers included a number of well-known DJs, including Kris Needs, Rob da Bank, Spoony, Terry Farley, Bob Jones, Jonty Skrufff and Dave Mothersole. A waterphone (also ocean harp) is a type of inharmonic acoustic tuned idiophone consisting of a stainless steel resonator ''bowl'' or ''pan'' with a cylindrical ''neck'' and bronze rods of different lengths and diameters around the rim of the bowl. The resonator may contain a small amount of water giving the waterphone a vibrant ethereal sound that has appeared in movie soundtracks, record albums, and live performances. The instrument was invented, developed and manufactured by American Richard Waters (1935-2013).
