'' Gotham'' is an American crime television series developed by Bruno Heller, based on characters appearing in and published by DC Comics in their Batman franchise, primarily those of James Gordon and Bruce Wayne. The series premiered in the United States on September 22, 2014 on Fox television network. The series stars Ben McKenzie as the young Gordon while Heller executive produces along with Danny Cannon, who also directed the pilot. As originally conceived, the series would have served as a straightforward story of Gordon's early days on the Gotham City Police Department, but the idea evolved, not only to include Wayne's "transformation" into Batman, but also to explore the origin stories of several of his villains, such as Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman and several others. Bruce Wayne, alternately known by his vigilante name the Dark Knight, is a fictional character appearing in the Warner Bros. TV/DC Comics series '' Gotham'', based on the character of the same name who is the secret identity of DC Comics superhero Batman, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, and developed for television by Bruno Heller. ''Gotham'' portrays Bruce's teenage years and transition into adapting his Batman personality in later years. David Albert Mazouz (; born ) is an American actor. He is best known for his leading role as Bruce Wayne in Fox's Batman-prequel TV drama '' Gotham'' (2014–2019). Mazouz started his acting career with several guest roles before joining the Fox TV series ''Touch'' (2012–2013), for which he was nominated for a Young Artist Award. He has had leading roles in the films ''The Games Maker'' and '' The Darkness''. Harvey Bullock () is a fictional detective appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in association with the superhero Batman. Donal Francis Logue (born February 27, 1966) is a Canadian actor.
