Subekti
Subekti (1914-1992) was the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia. Although Subekti had initially been in consideration for the position of the country's third chief justice, then-President Sukarno chose Subekti's predecessor, Suryadi, against the recommendations of the Parliament of Indonesia. Among the reasons for Sukarno's rejection was the false accusation that Subekti played poker, viewed as an immoral act unbefitting a judge. Suryadi fell into conflict with the Indonesian Judges Association (of which he'd been a founding member) as well as parliament; he resigned under President Suharto, after which parliament promptly appointed Subekti as chief justice.Sebastian Pompe, ''The Indonesian Supreme Court'', pg. 86. Suryadi (sometimes spelled Soerjadi) was a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia, as well as the first chairman of the Indonesian Judges Association. Umar Seno Aji
Umar Seno Aji (5 December 1915 – 9 November 1984) was the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia as well as the fourteenth Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights. Aji's appointment as minister of law in 1966 was initially viewed as a victory by supporters of the rule of law; this later led to disappointment when, after his appointment, he became an opponent of judicial review. While his predecessor as chief justice Subekti had been a champion of judicial independence, Aji aided in the subordination of the supreme court to the executive branch and his successor as minister of law, Mochtar Kusumaatmadja. His exertion of pressure on courts to avoid giving citizens too many rights in tort cases were one factor that led to the establishment of formal administrative courts in the country, though his politics of patronage are still credited with whittling away the judiciary's independence by the 1970s. Kwitang is an administrative village (''kelurahan'') in the subdistrict (''kecamatan'') of Senen, Central Jakarta. It is one of the historic administrative village of Jakarta. The boundary of Kwitang is the Ciliwung to the west, Jalan Kramat Kwitang to the north, Jalan Kramat Raya to the east, and Jalan Kramat 4 to the south.
