Stéphanie Plante
Stéphanie Plante (born July 1979) is a Canadian politician. She is currently the city councillor for Rideau-Vanier Ward on Ottawa City Council. She was first elected in the 2022 Ottawa municipal election. Early life Plante was born in Tecumseh, Ontario, the daughter of a Swiss mother and a Quebecois father. Plante attended the University of Windsor, where she received a bachelors and masters degree in political science. While attending the university, she did an internship with Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal Member of Parliament Herb Gray, resulting in a move to Ottawa in 2004, first settling in Vanier, Ontario, Vanier. After moving to Ottawa, she worked for Elections Canada, and taught municipal governance at the University of Ottawa. In 2020, as a member of the Sandy Hill Community Association, Plante began a successful campaign to re-name a neighbourhood park after local artist Annie Pootoogook who had drowned in 2016. Tecumseh, Ontario
Tecumseh is a town in Essex County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is on Lake St. Clair east of Windsor and had a population of 23,229 at the 2016 census. It is part of the Windsor census metropolitan area, and is a part of the Windsor-Essex County region along with Amherstburg, Kingsville, Lakeshore, LaSalle and Leamington. Tecumseh was originally a Franco-Ontarian settlement. Food processing is a major industry in Tecumseh, as Bonduelle owns a food processing plant near the town. The plant was built by Green Giant in 1931. Green Giant sold the plant in the late 1990s to Family Tradition Foods, who sold it to Carrière Foods in 2006. Madeleine Meilleur (born November 22, 1948) is a Canadian nurse, lawyer and former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2016. She represented the riding of Ottawa—Vanier. She was a cabinet minister in the governments of Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne. In May 2017, she was nominated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to become Canada's next Official Languages Commissioner. Her appointment had to be approved by the House of Commons and Senate to become official. On June 7, 2017, she withdrew her name from consideration due to controversy around her selection. Jacquelin Holzman
Jacquelin Holzman (born 1935) is a Canadian politician who served as the 55th mayor of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, from 1991 to 1997. Before that, she was an Ottawa city councillor from 1982 to 1991. Early life and advocacy Holzman was born in Ottawa, Ontario to parents Sally Feldman and Israel Feldman. She has one sister, Evelyn Greenberg. Holzman was an advocate for multiple causes before she became a politician. In the 1950s, Holzman joined the National Council of Jewish Women. She also became an advocate for people with disabilities, focusing her efforts on affordable housing and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
