Styr River
The Styr (; ; ) is a right tributary of the Pripyat, with a length of 494 km. Its basin area is 13,100 km2 located in historical region of Volhynia. The Styr begins near Brody, in the Ukrainian Oblast of Lviv, then flows into Rivne Oblast, Volyn Oblast, then into Brest Region of Belarus where it finally flows into the Pripyat. During the Khmelnytskyi Uprising, in 1651 at Styr river took place important battle of Berestechko between armies of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Cossacks of Bohdan Khmelnytsky. During 1915–1916, the Styr river was the front line between the Austro-Hungarian and Imperial Russian armies. The river was also a barrier to the German invasion on June 22, 1941, during Operation Barbarossa on the South-Western Front. Varash
Varash ( uk, Вараш), from 1977 to 2016 Kuznetsovsk ( uk, Кузнецо́вськ, links=no), is a city in Rivne Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Varash urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine and Varash Raion, one of the raions of Ukraine. Population: The mayor of Varash is Oleksandr Menzul. History The first written mention of Varash is dated back to 1577 a "ZIEMIE RUSKIE. WOLYN i PODOLE" A modern urban-type settlement was started on 1973 as a company town of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. The new town was named in honor of the Soviet intelligence agent, partisan Nikolai Kuznetsov. The plan of the city reflects the ideals of late socialist realism. Part of the city occupies the site of the former village of Varash, founded in 1776. Now it is one of the districts in the city. Staryi Chortoryisk
Staryi Chortoryisk ( uk, Старий Чорторийськ, translit. ''Staryi Chortoryis'k'', pl, Czartorysk) is a village (''selo'') in north-western Ukraine. It is located on the bank of the Styr River in the Kamin-Kashyrskyi Raion of Volyn Oblast. One of the most ancient settlements of Volhynia, ''Chortoriysk'' (or ''Chertoryesk'') was first mentioned in 1100 in the Hypatian Chronicle where it was recorded as having been passed to Prince David Igorevych (or ''Davyd Ihorevych'') of Volhynia (1087-1099), together with Dubno, Busk and Ostroh In the 13th century, it was claimed by the rulers of Pinsk, who built a tower in Chortoryisk resembling the famous Bela Vezha in Kamieniec.
