Barratts was a brand of high street shoe shops operating in the UK and Ireland. The Barratts shoes brand traded from 100 UK and Ireland stores. The company was established in Northampton in 1903, and became a highly successful brand known for its lavishly produced boot catalogues during the 1920s. In 1964, it was bought by the company Stylo and, under the Barratts brand name, expanded to over 400 stores at its height, before foreign competition in the 1990s reduced its market share. Barratts entered administration for the third time in five years on 11 November 2013. William Barratt (manufacturer)
Arthur William Barratt (8 October 1877 – 8 December 1939) was a British people, British shoe manufacturer and socialist activist, who founded Barratts Shoes. Born in Northampton, Barratt was the son of John, a working-class shoemaker, and Eleanor Yeomans. After a primary education, he became a shop assistant, selling shoes, and after a while moved to London. He met and married Alice Johnson, and the couple settled in Northampton. Barratt joined the Social Democratic Federation and stood for Northampton Town Council, narrowly missing out on election. In 1902, Barratt set up a shoe shop with a brother. The following year, he began selling shoes by mail order, and although the shop went bankrupt in 1906, the mail order business proved a success. Dolcis Shoes is a shoewear retailer in the United Kingdom that operate online and through retailers. Previously, they owned over 65 standalone shops in the UK and over 150 concessions. Bought by Harvey Jacobson, of the Jacobson Group in 2012, they relaunched their collections the following year to celebrate their 150th anniversary. Billy Casper
William Earl Casper Jr. (June 24, 1931 – February 7, 2015) was an American professional golfer. He was one of the most prolific tournament winners on the PGA Tour from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. In his youth, Casper started as a caddie and emerged from the junior golf hotbed of San Diego, where golf could be played year-round, to rank seventh all-time in career Tour wins with 51, across a 20-year period between 1956 and 1975. George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) was a Northern Irish professional footballer who played as a winger, spending most of his club career at Manchester United. Rodney George Laver (born 9 August 1938) is an Australian former tennis player. Laver was the world number 1 ranked professional in some sources in 1964, in all sources from 1965 to 1969 and in some sources in 1970, spanning four years before and three years after the start of the Open Era in 1968. Pavers Ltd, also known as Pavers Shoes, is a family-owned footwear business operating in the UK and Ireland. Pavers currently has more than 100 stores, all managed from the head office in York. The company has grown rapidly in recent years and online. In 2011, Pavers launched its 24-hour TV footwear shopping channel on Sky. Pavers was established by Catherine Paver in 1971, with a £300 bank loan (), initially by organising shoe parties with clearance stock from shoe catalogues.
