Studio Misr
Studio Misr was a film studio established in Egypt in 1934 by the economist Talaat Harb. Owned and staffed by Egyptians, it was known as 'The Studio of Egypt'. For three decades, it was the leading Egyptian equivalent to Hollywood's major studios. Studio Misr's first film was '' Wedad'' (1936), the first film to star the singer Umm Kulthum. Talaat Harb
Talaat Harb Pacha ( ar, طلعت حرب باشا; 25 November 1867 – 13 August 1941) was a leading Egyptian entrepreneur and founder of Banque Misr, and its group of companies, in May 1920. His works The establishment of Banque Misr, the first real Egyptian bank owned by Egyptian shareholders and staffed by Egyptian nationals, where Arabic (the national language) was used in all communications, was a major step in establishing a national economic identity. The idea of establishing Banque Misr first emerged in 1907, when Talaat Harb contributed 100 EGP to the establishment of Al Ahly SC. He was a renowned nationalist industrialist, he published a book calling for the founding of a national bank with Egyptian financing. ''Weddad'' ( ar, وداد, lit. “Song of Hope”) is a 1936 Egyptian romantic musical film. ''Weddad'', also transliterated as ''Wydad'', is based on a romantic tale inspired by Omar Khayyam's One Thousand and One Nights. It is considered one of the greatest Egyptian movies of all time, and has been voted the best Egyptian film of all time in the list of Top 100 Egyptian films in 20th century, among other websites and magazines. Plot A young couple, Muhammad and Fatima, fall in love and get married. However, their bliss is cut short when Muhammad loses his job and is forced to work as fabric salesman, without telling his wife.
