Stuart Joel Nuggett
Stuart Joel Nuggett (Kirriyangunji) is a Jingili country musician based in Alice Springs, Australia. He speaks Mudbura and Jingulu languages. Career Originally from Elliott (Kulumindini), Northern Territory, Nugget was front man for the rock band, Storm Riders. The band also included Samuel Sandy and Jason Bill of Kulumindini Band, with Farryl Jones, Terrance Cooper, and Clifford Campbell. In 2002 Storm Riders released a five-track extended play (EP), ''Waiting on a Miracle'', and played 2014's Merrepen Festival. Nuggett was taught Jingulu by his mother Janet Sandy-Gregory who was one of four fluent speakers of the language. In 2019 he released ''Stuart Nuggett'', a five-track EP, featuring music in the Jingulu language on CAAMA Music. It was performed at the First Nations Media Awards and National Live Music Awards. Jingulu Language
Jingulu, also spelt Djingili, is an Australian language spoken by the Jingili people in the Northern Territory of Australia, historically around the township of Elliot. The language is one of several languages of the West Barkly family. The Jingulu have (or had) a well-developed signed form of their language. A 2022 study reports on an artificial intelligence (AI) system based on some unusual elements of the language, which only has three verbs and a flexible sentence structure. Background and location Other languages spoken in the West Barkly family include Wambaya, Gudanji, Binbinka, and Ngarnka. When the Mudburra people arrived to the region the Jingili live, a cultural fusion group arose named Kuwarrangu, while the Jingilu and Mudburra cultures still remained separate. Beetaloo
Beetaloo is the name of a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory, known as Beetaloo Station. It is also the name of an area in the Sturt Plateau, known as the Beetaloo Sub-Basin or Beetaloo Basin, around south-east of Darwin, between Mataranka to the north and Elliott to the south. This area is rich in natural gas, which can be exploited by fracking, which has caused controversy. Elliott, Northern Territory
Elliott is a town in Northern Territory of Australia. It is almost halfway between Darwin and Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway. The town is in the Yapurkulangu ward of the Barkly Region.
