Stuart Griffiths (photographer)
Stuart Griffiths (born 1972) is a British photographer and writer living in Hastings, East Sussex. He published photographs from his time in the Parachute Regiment in ''The Myth of the Airborne Warrior'' (2011) and wrote about that period and later in ''Pigs' Disco'' (2013). Griffiths has had a solo exhibition, ''Closer'', at MAC, Birmingham and his work is held in the collection of the Imperial War Museums. Life and work Griffiths is from North West England. He was born in Manchester and grew up on its outskirts. The family later moved to Warrington where he spent his teenage years. He joined the British Army at age 16, spending five years in the Parachute Regiment, deployed as part of Operation Banner in Northern Ireland. Parachute Regiment (United Kingdom)
The Parachute Regiment, colloquially known as the Paras, is an airborne infantry regiment of the British Army. The first battalion is part of the Special Forces Support Group under the operational command of the Director Special Forces. The other battalions are the parachute infantry component of the British Army's rapid response formation, 16 Air Assault Brigade. The Paras, along with the Guards, are the only line infantry regiment of the British Army that has not been amalgamated with another unit since the end of the Second World War. The Parachute Regiment was formed on 22 June 1940 during the Second World War and eventually raised 17 battalions. In Europe, these battalions formed part of the 1st Airborne Division, the 6th Airborne Division and the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade Group. Sean O'Hagan is an Irish writer for ''The Guardian'' and ''The Observer'', his specialty being photography. ''People & Power'' is a current affairs programme on Al Jazeera English which broadcasts once a week, on Wednesdays, and repeated throughout the week. The show is also shown on Al Jazeera America once a week on Thursdays. Each half-hour programme features one investigative documentaries on an issue related to the power from around the world. The programme occasionally has one-hour specials. History ''People & Power'' was launched on November 15, 2006 when Al Jazeera English launched. The programme originally had a presenter. It was hosted by Shereen El Feki but she was replaced by a new presenter, Samah El-Shahat, a development economist, in March 2007. Metropolitan Arts Centre
The Metropolitan Arts Centre, usually referred to as the MAC, is an arts venue in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter and is home to all kinds of exhibitions, theatre performances, experimental works. Belfast Exposed is a photography gallery in Belfast, established in 1983. It was Northern Ireland's first dedicated photographic gallery and in 2018 Sean O'Hagan in ''The Guardian'' described it as "the key independent space for contemporary photography" there. Belfast Exposed houses a 20×7 m gallery for the exhibition of contemporary photography, digital archive browsing facilities, a spacious black and white photographic darkroom and a digital editing suite in its Donegall Street premises. It was established "to challenge and subvert media representations of the Troubles-torn city". Val Williams
Val Williams is a British curator and author who has become an authority on British photography. She is the Professor of the History and Culture of Photography at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London, and was formerly the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Hasselblad Center. Photography And The Archive Research Centre
Photography and the Archive Research Centre (PARC) is an organisation in London that commissions new research into photography and culture, curates and produces exhibitions and publications, organises seminars, study days, symposia and conferences, and supervises PhD students. Gordon MacDonald (editor)
Gordon MacDonald (born 1967) works with photography as an artist, writer, curator, press photographer and educator. He is the founding editor of ''Photoworks (magazine), Photoworks'' magazine and was head of publishing at Photoworks in Brighton. He co-founded Brighton Photo Fringe in 2003; and was for a time its chair of the board of trustees. He was co-founder and co-director, alongside Stuart Smith, of the visual arts publisher GOST.
