Stronghold (film)
''Stronghold'' is a 1951 American-Mexican Western historical film directed by Steve Sekely and starring Veronica Lake, Zachary Scott and Arturo de Córdova. A separate Spanish version ''Red Fury'' was also made. The cost of both films was $519,000. Plot In 1865, Señora Stevens and her American daughter Maria leave the US to return to Stevens' homeland of Mexico along with their servant Caesar. Both Maria's father and brother were killed in the US Civil War (the father fighting for the South, the brother for the North), and they hope to live peacefully under Emperor Maximilian. Maria, her mother and Cesar are kidnapped by the bandit Ignacio López as soon as they land. Señora Stevens fakes a collapse, which allows Caesar to attack Lopez and the women to escape. They arrive at an estate belonging to Don Pedro Álvarez, the son of an old friend of Senora Stevens. Steve Sekely
Steve Sekely (February 25, 1899– March 9, 1979) was a Hungarian film director. Born István Székely, he was known by several names, based on his changing professional and immigration status, including Stefan Szekely. He directed films in Hungarian, German, and English. Biography He worked as a newspaper journalist in Germany, before returning to Hungary in the early 1930s. He directed one of the most famous classic Hungarian films, the frequently revived comedy ''Hyppolit, a lakáj'' (1931). That film was remade in 2000 and the original was later digitally restored and released on DVD. Sekely left pre-war Hungary, fleeing growing fascism and laws restricting rights and professional opportunities for Jews. Emilia Guiú
Emilia Guiú Estivella (March 21, 1922 – February 7, 2004) was a Spanish-Mexican actress who appeared mainly in Mexican films, particularly in the 1940s and 1950s in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She made over 60 film appearances between 1943 and 2000 and typically played villain roles and "femme fatale". She also made a number of theatrical appearances. Career Guiu left Spain with her family, during the Spanish Civil War. In 1943 she moved to Mexico and shortly after arriving, she discovered that a Spanish film director needed migrants as hired extras. This brought about her debut role in ''Flor silvestre'' (1943). María Antonia Abad Fernández MML (10 March 1928 – 8 April 2013), known professionally as Sara Montiel, also Sarita Montiel, was a Spanish actress and singer, who also held Mexican citizenship since 1951. She began her career in the 1940s and became the most internationally popular and highest paid star of Spanish cinema in the 1960s. Churubusco Studios
Estudios Churubusco is one of the oldest and largest movie studios in Mexico. It is located in the Churubusco neighborhood of Mexico City. History It was inaugurated in 1945 after a 1943 agreement between RKO and Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta (of Televisa). In 1950 it was acquired by the government of Mexico and merged with Estudios y Laboratorios Azteca to form Estudios Churubusco Azteca. Since 1958 it has been controlled by the government of Mexico. Of the four motion picture studios during the golden age of Mexican cinema—the others were Estudios America, Estudios San Angel and Estudios Tepeyac—it and Televisa San Angel (the former Estudios San Angel) are still in operation. Felipe de Alba (April 29, 1924 – November 15, 2005) was a Mexican attorney and character actor from the 1940s and 1950s. Gustavo Rojo Pinto (5 September 1923 – 22 April 2017) was a Uruguayan-Mexican actor. Life and career Gustavo Rojo was born on 5 September 1923 on a German ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. His mother was the prominent Spanish author Mercedes Pinto, who emigrated to Uruguay for political reasons. His two older siblings, Pituka de Foronda and Ruben Rojo, also became actors. In the late 1920s, Mercedes wrote a play and Gustavo made his theater debut. Gustavo's screen debut came as a child actor in the 1938 Cuban film ''Ahora seremos felices'', in which his older sister Pituka had a starring role. In the 1940s, the family moved to Mexico, where Rojo worked steadily throughout the 1940s.
