Strike A Deal (foaled in January 2004) was a Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse foaled in Kentucky who was a millionaire Grass, turf specialist that won or placed in twelve stakes races at eight tracks in six different states or provinces over his five-year racing career. The son of Smart Strike is probably best remembered for winning the graded stakes race, Grade II 1 1/8 miles Dixie Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on the Preakness Stakes undercard. Early career Strike a Deal was purchased in the Keeneland September yearling sale for $350,000. After breaking his maiden in the summer of 2006, he raced in the Pilgrim Stakes in late September at Belmont Park in New York and placed second at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. Then his connections sent him south to Maryland for the Laurel Futurity at Laurel Park Racecourse, where he won the $150,000 race at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Pilgrim Stakes
The Pilgrim Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds over a distance of miles on the turf track scheduled annually in late September at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The event currently offers a purse of $200,000. History The event was inaugurated on 29 October 1979 at Aqueduct Racetrack and was run over the mile distance in split divisions as the sixth and eighth race on the card that day. The race is named for Joseph E. Widener's horse, Pilgrim, winner of the 1919 Remsen Stakes. In 1982 the event was classified as Grade III, upgraded to Grade II in 1988 for two runnings before being downgraded to Grade III. From 2001–2007 the race was not graded as in 2009 when the event was moved off the turf track due to the inclement weather and held over a shorter one mile distance. Woodbine Racetrack
Woodbine Racetrack is a race track for Thoroughbred horse racing in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group, Woodbine Racetrack manages and hosts Canada's most famous race, the King's Plate. The track was opened in 1956 with a one-mile oval dirt track, as well as a seven-eights turf course. It has been extensively remodeled since 1993, and since 1994 has had three racecourses. Nijinsky Stakes (Canada)
The Nijinsky Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Since 2009, it has been run in late July. The Grade II race is open to horses aged three years and up and is run on Woodbine Racetrack's E. P. Taylor Turf Course at a distance of one and one eight miles. The race currently offers a purse of CAD$175,000 added. Inaugurated as the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy Stakes in 1998, it was raced during the third week of July on turf at a distance of miles. In 2002, the Chinese Cultural Centre sponsored the race and it was renamed the Chinese Cultural Centre Stakes. Monmouth Park Racetrack
Monmouth Park Racetrack is an American race track for thoroughbred horse racing in Oceanport, New Jersey, United States. It is owned by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and is operated under a five-year lease as a partnership with Darby Development, LLC. Monmouth Park's marquee event is the Haskell Invitational, named after Amory L. Haskell. The Haskell was first run in 1968 as a handicap, but was made into an Invitational Handicap in 1981. It is now a 1⅛-mile test for three-year-olds run in late July. Monmouth Park also now showcases the Jersey Derby originally run at Garden State Park until its closure in 2001. Delaware Park (also known as ''DelPark'') is an American Thoroughbred horse racing track, casino, and golf course in Stanton, Delaware. It is located just outside the city of Wilmington, and about 30 miles from Philadelphia. Thoroughbred racing William duPont, Jr. a designer of twenty-three racing courses, designed and built Delaware Park Racetrack in partnership with Donald P. Ross. Phillip T. Harris of Media, PA., was hired as the architectural engineer. The facility opened on June 26, 1937 and today is the only thoroughbred horse racing track in the state of Delaware. Kent Breeders' Cup Stakes
The Kent Stakes is a Listed American race for Thoroughbred race horses, age three, run on the turf at Delaware Park Racetrack located in Stanton, Delaware. Set at a distance of one and one eighth mile (9 furlongs), the race currently offers a purse of $200,000. In 2011, due to heavy rain, this turf race was held on the main track. Because of this, the number of horses contesting was reduced by scratches from 13 to 6. First run in 1937 when Delaware Park opened, there was no Kent Stakes run in 1943, 1977–1978, 1980–1981, and 1983–1995. New Kent County is a county in the eastern part the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 United States Census, its population was 22,945. Its county seat is New Kent. Colonial Downs is a Race track, racetrack located in New Kent County, Virginia adjacent to Interstate 64, halfway between Richmond, Virginia, Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia, Williamsburg. Virginia Derby
The Virginia Derby is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds over a distance of one and one-eighth miles on the turf held annually in September at Colonial Downs in New Kent County, Virginia. The event currently carries a purse of $300,000. History The inaugural running of the event was 3 October 1998 as part of the newly opened racetrack in Virginia known as Colonial Downs at a distance of miles on the outer turf course. Colonial Turf Cup
The Commonwealth Turf Cup is an American Thoroughbred horse race held each year since 2015 at Laurel Park in Laurel, Maryland. It was previously known as the Colonial Turf Cup when it was held at Colonial Downs race track in New Kent County, Virginia. It is raced on turf at a distance of one mile and is open to horses aged three years old and up. The current purse is $200,000. In 2009, the race was upgraded from a Grade III to a Grade II event. In 2011, the race changed its conditions to allow entry of older horses. This change caused the race to lose its graded status until 2013, when it again became a Grade II event. From 2005 to 2013, the race was run at miles. For the 2015 renewal, the distance was shortened to miles, and in 2016 to 1 mile.
