Strike-a-Thon
The Frank Bacon Memorial Strike-a-thon is an annual charity bowling event (since 1984), in Connecticut, USA, which raises funds for the Western Connecticut Regional Hospice. Event Originally named Strikes for Tykes, the bowling event began in 1984, and was organized by Frank Bacon and Jim Byrnes. It was renamed the Frank Bacon Memorial Strike-a-thon in 1993, and it was in that year that all proceeds of the event began to be donated to the Regional Hospice. The event takes place in both Danbury, CT and Brookfield, CT, each spring and brings some of the biggest stars in professional bowling together with local bowlers and bowling enthusiasts. The event begins with a breakfast to honor local youth bowlers as well as local Hall of Fame inductees, and concludes with a bowling exhibition at Brookfield Lanes. Pete Weber (bowler)
Peter David Weber (born August 21, 1962) is an American semi-retired bowler in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Weber was one of the sport's most active players and became known for his maverick, chirpy and rebellious personality. He is also known for being incredibly versatile, with his high backswing and the side rotation he puts on the bowling ball helping him control numerous oil conditions. Weber is featured in the ten-pin bowling sports documentary ''A League of Ordinary Gentlemen''. He has won 37 titles on the PBA Tour (fourth all-time), including ten major championships (tied for second all-time), and another 13 titles (five majors) on the PBA50 Tour. Danbury is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, located approximately northeast of New York City. Danbury's population as of 2022 was 87,642. Mike Aulby
Mike Aulby (born March 25, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana) is a left-handed bowler and former member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He is one of only five PBA bowlers to win both a Rookie and Player of the Year award. ( Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, Jason Belmonte and E. J. Tackett are the others.) He is also the one of two players in history to complete a career "Super Slam", in which a bowler wins all five PBA Tour major tournaments at least once (the other player being Jason Belmonte). Marshall Holman
Marshall Holman (born September 29, 1954) is an American sports broadcaster and retired professional ten-pin bowler. He was known for his flamboyant, fiery demeanor and his success on the PBA Tour from the mid-1970s to the end of the 1980s. He is one of only 16 players in history to reach at least 20 career PBA Tour titles. Holman was sponsored by Columbia 300 and Nike. The first bowler on the PBA Tour to surpass $1.5 million in earnings, Holman won 22 titles (12th all-time), including four majors (two U.S. Opens and two Tournament of Champions titles). Johnny Petraglia
John Petraglia Sr. (born March 3, 1947) is an American professional bowler. He is a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), where he won 14 PBA Tour titles. He has also won eight PBA Senior Tour titles. He is a member of both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Bowling career Petraglia joined the PBA in 1965, and won his first tour title at Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1966 when he was just 19 years old. A week later, Petraglia left the PBA Tour to join the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served as an Army Specialist 5 in Long Binh and Bien Hoa from 1967 to 1968. His best season as a pro came in 1971, when he won five titles in all. Parker Bohn III
Parker Morse Bohn III (born July 13, 1963) is a left-handed American professional bowler. He has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) since 1984, and is a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Bohn is one of only eight players in PBA history to accumulate at least 30 career PBA Tour titles, currently ranking fifth all-time with 35. Randy Pedersen
Randy Pedersen (born May 28, 1962) is an American sportscaster and former professional Bowler (ten-pin), bowler. He is currently a color analyst for Fox Sports (United States), Fox Sports' coverage of the Professional Bowlers Association, PBA Tour, formerly filling that same role on ESPN and CBS Sports Network telecasts of the PBA Tour in previous seasons. During the most recent season, he worked alongside play-by-play announcers Rob Stone (sportscaster), Rob Stone and Dave Ryan (sportscaster), Dave Ryan, having previously worked with Dave LaMont, Lon McEachern and Mike Jakubowski. Jason Couch
Jason Couch (born November 8, 1969) is a ten-pin bowler on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour, and a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. A left-handed cranker, Couch graduated from Clermont High School in Clermont, Florida and still resides in Clermont. He owns 16 PBA Tour titles, including four major championships, plus one title on the PBA50 Tour. PBA career Couch joined the PBA in 1991. Brian Voss (born August 4, 1958) of Cornelius, North Carolina, is a professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association since 1982. The right-hander owns 25 PBA Tour titles (11th all-time), including one major championship, plus two titles on the PBA50 Tour and one PBA60 event title. Dick Weber
Richard Anthony Weber (December 23, 1929 – February 14, 2005) was a ten-pin bowling professional and a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Along with Don Carter, Weber is widely regarded as professional bowling's first superstar. He is one of only eight players in history to accumulate at least 30 career PBA Tour titles, and was also the first player to reach that plateau. Bowling accomplishments Weber made his first bowling headlines during the early 1950s, while working as a mailman in his native Indianapolis.
