Strictispiridae
Strictispiridae is a taxonomic family of small predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusk Mollusca is the second-largest phylum of invertebrate animals after the Arthropoda, the members of which are known as molluscs or mollusks (). Around 85,000  extant species of molluscs are recognized. The number of fossil species is e ...s in the superfamily Conoidea, the cone snails and their allies.MolluscaBase (2018). Conoidea
Conoidea is a superfamily of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks within the suborder Hypsogastropoda. This superfamily is a very large group of marine mollusks, estimated at about 340 recent valid genera and subgenera, and considered by one authority to contain 4,000 named living species. This superfamily includes the turrids, the terebras (also known as auger snails or auger shells) and the cones or cone snails. The phylogenetic relationships within this superfamily are poorly established. Several families (especially the Turridae), subfamilies and genera are thought to be polyphyletic. In contrast to Puillandre's estimate, Bandyopadhyay et al. (2008) estimated that the superfamily Conoidea contains about 10,000 species. Tucker (2004) even speaks of 11,350 species in the group of taxa commonly referred to as turrids.Tucker, J.K. 2004 ''Catalog of recent and fossil turrids (Mollusca: Gastropoda).'' Zootaxa 682:1–1295. 3000 recent taxa are potentially valid specie ...

Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=390990 on 2019-01-27 Taxonomy Previously this genus was included in the family Turridae, subfamily Strictispirinae. Taylor ''et al.'' (1993) elevated this subfamily to the rank of family Strictispiridae. M.G. Faber (2007) stated that these species were conchological identical to '' Crassispira'', but differ by a different radula The radula (, ; plural radulae or radulas) is an anatomical structure used by molluscs for feeding, sometimes compared to a tongue. It is a minutely toothed, chitinous ribbon, which is typically used for scraping or cutting food before the food ... type and buccal mass. James Hamilton McLean (17 June 1936 - 11 November 2016)Coan E. V., Kabat A. R. & Petit R. E. (15 February 2009''2,400 years of Malacology'' (6th Edition). was an American malacologist (a biologist who studies mollusks). He specialized in marine gastropods. He worked on many families of Eastern Pacific gastropods including the Fissurellidae, Trochidae, Turbinidae and Liotiidae, and also investigated deep sea gastropods from hydrothermal vents. McLean worked as a curator of Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County from 1964 to 2001 and was a curator emeritus there until his death in November 2016. Molluscs described McLean, often together with other malacologists, described, according to the database WoRMS, 385 new taxa.(7 December 2007) from Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County website At least 37 taxa were named for James McLean with the epithet ''macleani'' (according to WoRMS) He named numerous taxa of marine gastropods including: * Clypeosectidae McLean, 1989, a ...
