Street Art In Atlanta
In recent years, Atlanta has become one of the USA's best cities for street art. Street artists have prominently created murals in Krog Street Tunnel, along the BeltLine, and in neighborhoods across the city. The street art conference, Living Walls, the City Speaks, originated in Atlanta in 2009. Events and festivals Atlanta is host to the street art conference Living Walls, the City Speaks. In 2012, the conference limited participation to women street artists. The Outerspace Project, an annual series of street art and cultural events coordinated by Greg Mike, began in 2015. Peter Ferrari founded Forward Warrior, an event and initiative to bring together muralists in Atlanta to add street art to a host neighborhood. Sweetness is a basic taste most commonly perceived when eating foods rich in sugars. Sweet tastes are generally regarded as pleasurable. The arts in Atlanta are well-represented, with a prominent presence in music, fine art, and theater. Music Atlanta has played a major or contributing role in the development of various genres of American music at different times in the city's history. Beginning as early as the 1920s, Atlanta emerged as a center for country music, which was brought to the city by migrants from Appalachia. During the countercultural 1960s, Atlanta hosted the Atlanta International Pop Festival in 1969 more than a month before Woodstock and featuring many of the same bands. Creative Loafing
Creative Loafing is an Atlanta-based publisher of a monthly arts and culture newspaper/magazine. The company publishes a 60,000 circulation monthly publication which is distributed to in-town locations and neighborhoods on the first Thursday of each month. The company has historically been a part of the alternative weekly newspapers association in the United States. Creative Loafing began as a family-owned business in 1972 by Deborah and Chick Eason, expanding to other cities in the Southern United States in the late 1980s and 1990s. In 2007 it doubled its circulation with the purchase of the ''Chicago Reader'' and ''Washington City Paper''; the $40 million debt it incurred, along with an economic recession, forced the company into bankruptcy one year later. Living Walls (conference)
Living Walls, The City Speaks is an annual street art conference co-founded in 2009 by Monica Campana & Blacki Migliozzi. Blankenship, Jessica (13 August 2010)"Living Walls" ''Creative Loafing''. The conference was first held in 2010. It was originally held in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2011, a sister event, called "Living Walls, Albany" was also held in Albany, New York. Events During the events, local and invited artists create murals and other street art. Artists often paint directly on vacant buildings, though always after showing plans to and acquiring permission from building owners. According to the organizer of the Albany event, "The entire point of this project is revitalization". The Atlanta events also included lectures and a gallery show. The Old Fourth Ward, often abbreviated O4W, is an intown neighborhood on the eastside of Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
