Streatham and Croydon North is a constituency in Greater London represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It is currently represented by Steve Reed of the Labour and Co-operative Party, who currently serves as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under the government of Keir Starmer. Scott Ainslie
Scott John Ainslie (born 27 December 1968) is a British politician and actor. He was elected as a Green Party Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for London in the 2019 European parliamentary election. He held this role until the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU. Ainslie is also a councillor representing St Leonard's Ward on the Lambeth Council in London since 2014. Early life and local political career Scott John Ainslie was born on 27 December 1968 in Edinburgh. He grew up in a council flat, and has one younger sister. Ainslie graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with an economics degree. After graduating he studied at the drama school Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts on a scholarship. Bellavia Janet Ribeiro-Addy (born 1 March 1985) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Streatham since the 2019 general election. Solidly on the left of the Party, she considers herself a "life-long socialist" and a feminist and was briefly Shadow Minister of State for Immigration in 2020. Early life Born and raised in Streatham, Ribeiro-Addy grew up in a working-class family on a council estate on Brixton Hill. She is Christian and of Ghanaian descent. Ribeiro-Addy was able to attend the independent Streatham and Clapham High School on a scholarship. Croydon (UK Parliament Constituency)
Croydon was a constituency in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament from 1885 to 1918. As with most in its lifetime following the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, it was a seat, that elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was won for all but three years by the Conservative candidate, the exception being the years 1906-1909 when that party, as a fellow Unionist party against Irish Home Rule and other devolution in a spell of widespread popular decline held a general meeting endorsing instead H. O. Arnold-Forster, a Liberal Unionist. His 3.2% victory against the candidate of the rest of the Liberal Party coupled with a 20.2% performance for Labour in Croydon which coincided with a Liberal landslide — the First Asquith ministry which brought in the fundamental constitutional reform of the Parliament Act 1911 after the delay for "the People's Budget" to be implemented.
