Straße Der Pariser Kommune
The Straße der Pariser Kommune is a street in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany. It was known as ''Fruchtstraße'' until March 17, 1971, when it was renamed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Paris Commune. The road begins at the meeting point of Mühlenstrasse and Straulauer Platz, which run parallel to the River Spree, and continues north along the rails of the Ostbahnhof to the Karl-Marx-Allee. It becomes the Friedenstraße just beyond this, where it meets the Palisadenstraße and the Weidenweg. North of the Ostbahnhof, it is almost entirely lined with communist-era apartment buildings, though some older buildings have been preserved at the intersection with the Karl-Marx-Allee. One may also find along it the Pegasus youth hostel, the DDR-style Ostel, the offices of the Neues Deutschland publishing house, and some clubs and shops. The Paris Commune (french: Commune de Paris, ) was a revolutionary government that seized power in Paris, the capital of France, from 18 March to 28 May 1871. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, the French National Guard had defended Paris, and working-class radicalism grew among its soldiers. Following the establishment of the Third Republic in September 1870 (under French chief executive Adolphe Thiers from February 1871) and the complete defeat of the French Army by the Germans by March 1871, soldiers of the National Guard seized control of the city on March 18. Berlin Ostbahnhof (German for Berlin East railway station) is a main line railway station in Berlin, Germany. It is located in the Friedrichshain quarter, now part of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg borough, and has undergone several name changes in its history. It was known as Berlin Hauptbahnhof from 1987 to 1998, a name now applied to Berlin's new central station at the former Lehrter station. Karl-Marx-Allee
Karl-Marx-Allee ( en, Karl Marx Alley) is a monumental socialist boulevard built by the GDR between 1952 and 1960 in Berlin Friedrichshain and Mitte. Today the boulevard is named after Karl Marx. It should not be confused with the ''Karl-Marx-Straße'' in the Neukölln district of Berlin. The boulevard was named Stalinallee between 1949 and 1961 (previously ''Große Frankfurter Straße''), and was a flagship building project of East Germany's reconstruction programme after World War II.
