Strayed (2009 Film)
''Strayed'' (russian: Заблудившийся) is a 2009 Kazakhstani thriller directed by Akan Satayev. The film was selected as the Kazakhstani entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards, but it didn't make the final shortlist. Plot A man (Andrey Merzlikin) traveling with his wife (Almagul Rulas) and son (Ilyas Sadyrov) to town takes a short cut across the steppes. The car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and in the morning he finds that his wife and son are gone. While looking for them he discovers a strange shack where an older man and his daughter live. This strange pair seem to have plans for him, but it is unclear what those plans might entail. As he discovers there is no escape from this place, he also gets closer to solving the mystery of what happened to his family, and who this strange man and woman really are. Andrey Merzlikin
Andrey Ilyich Merzlikin (russian: Андре́й Ильи́ч Мерзли́кин; born 24 March 1973) is a Russian film and theater actor. Early life Andrey Merzlikin was born in Kaliningrad, Moscow Oblast. In the first education – radio engineer of space engineering, then earned a degree in economics. In parallel, he graduated from the acting department Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (workshop Y. Kindinova). While studying at the institute, he starred in the short film "How I Spent My Summer" (dir. N. Pogonicheva) and received the prize for best actor at the film festival VGIK. Personal life In March 2006 Andrey married Anna Osokina – psychologist. They have three children: son Fyodor (born 2006), daughter Serafima (born 2008) and daughter Evdokiya (born 2010). This is a list of submissions to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The deadline for all countries to send in their submissions was 1 October 2010. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2009, and 30 September 2010.
