Stravenue
A stravenue (portmanteau of street and avenue) is a type of road particular to Tucson, Arizona. A stravenue runs "diagonally between and intersects a Street and an Avenue." By convention in Tucson, streets run east–west while avenues run north–south. However, in a few areas of Tucson, primarily around the central part of the city, which is divided by railroad tracks running diagonally from southeast to northwest, builders created small subdivisions of roads and houses that also are laid out on a diagonal basis rather than the normal east–west or north–south. Most of these subdivisions are located near either Benson Highway or Aviation Highway, which also run southeast to northwest. In landscaping, an avenue (from the French language, French), alameda (from the Portuguese language, Portuguese and Spanish language, Spanish), or allée (from the French), is traditionally a straight path or road with a line of trees or large shrubs running along each side, which is used, as its Latin source ''venire'' ("to come") indicates, to emphasize the "coming to," or ''arrival'' at a landscape or architecture, architectural feature. Demion Clinco is an American politician, historic preservationist, philanthropist, and business leader from the state of Arizona. The word ''stroad'' is a portmanteau of ''street'' and ''road'', coined by American civil engineer and urban planner Charles Marohn in 2011, as a commentary about paved traffic structures in the United States.
