Strathmore Football Club, usually referred to as Strathmore (Arbroath) to distinguish from Strathmore F.C. (Dundee), Dundee Strathmore, was a Scotland, Scottish association football club based in the town of Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, Angus. History The club was founded in 1879 and joined the Scottish Football Association in August 1883, playing in the Scottish Cup for five seasons between 1883 and 1888. Its best run was in 1885-86 Scottish Cup, 1885–86, reaching the fourth round, made up that season of 19 clubs. In the fourth round, the club put up a struggle at Abercorn F.C., equalizing an early Abercorn goal and having another disallowed; at half-time, the Strathie was still in the game, at 2–1 down, but Abercorn scored another five goals before Strathmore concluded the scoring with a late consolation. Arbroath () or Aberbrothock ( gd, Obar Bhrothaig ) is a former royal burgh and the largest town in the council area of Angus, Scotland, with a population of 23,902. It lies on the North Sea coast some ENE of Dundee and SSW of Aberdeen. There is evidence of Iron Age settlement, but its history as a town began with the founding of Arbroath Abbey in 1178. It grew much during the Industrial Revolution through the flax and then the jute industry and the engineering sector. A new harbour created in 1839; by the 20th century, Arbroath was one of Scotland's larger fishing ports. It is notable for the Declaration of Arbroath and the Arbroath smokie. John "Jocky" Petrie (21 June 1867 – 13 July 1932) was a Scottish footballer who played for Arbroath. He holds the record for the most goals ever scored in a senior British football game with 13 goals. Career Petrie signed for Arbroath from local club Strathmore. On 12 September 1885, Petrie, at the age of 18, scored 13 times for Arbroath in a record 36–0 win over Bon Accord. In 1891, Petrie signed for Distillery, playing in the Irish League for a season, before returning to Arbroath. In 1920, Petrie retired from football, later becoming a kitman and trainer for Arbroath. Brechin (; gd, Breichin) is a city and former Royal burgh in Angus, Scotland. Traditionally Brechin was described as a city because of its cathedral and its status as the seat of a pre-Reformation Roman Catholic diocese (which continues today as an episcopal seat of the Scottish Episcopal Church), but that status has not been officially recognised in the modern era. Carolina Port was a football stadium in Dundee, Scotland. The sport's first major venue in the city, it was an early home of Dundee F.C. and staged Dundee's first international match in 1896. History East End, one of the leading Dundee clubs, were based at Carolina Port from 1891. When they merged with local rivals Our Boys to form Dundee F.C. in 1893, it was generally assumed that the new club – which had immediately secured election to the Scottish Football League – would base themselves at Carolina Port, which was the most developed ground in Dundee at that time.
