Strathclyde F.C.
Strathclyde Football Club was a Scotland, Scottish football club based in Glasgow, who played in Scottish Junior Football Association competitions from 1894 until they went out of business in 1965. They won the Scottish Junior Cup on three occasions. History The club was formed in 1894 by followers of defunct Scottish Football League club Thistle F.C., Thistle, based in the Dalmarnock district of Glasgow. Thistle had spent their early years (up to 1892) playing at Beechwood Park located off Strathclyde Street, hence the name choice for the new team (the ground is not to be confused with the Beechwood Park, Leith, stadium of that name which was home to Leith Athletic F.C. in the same era). The West of Scotland Junior Challenge Cup was an annual Scottish football competition played in a one-leg knockout format (played at 'home' team grounds as drawn, until the final at a neutral venue), organised by the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association. After the entire West Region joined the senior pyramid structure in 2020, a new league competition was started, the West of Scotland League, and with it the new West of Scotland League Cup. Willie Waddell
William Waddell (7 March 1921 – 14 October 1992) was a professional football player and manager. His only club in a 16-year career as a player in the outside right position (interrupted by World War II) was Rangers which yielded six major winner's medals, and he also played 18 times for Scotland. Waddell also managed Rangers – leading them to their only continental trophy in the 1972 European Cup Winners' Cup Final – and served as a director of the Glasgow club, after a spell in charge of Kilmarnock which culminated in their only Scottish league title in 1964–65, followed by some years working as a sports journalist. Archie Baird
Archibald MacKechnie Baird (8 May 1919 – 3 November 2009) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Aberdeen and St Johnstone. He was also capped once by the Scotland national football team. Playing career Baird was born in Rutherglen. Having played for local Junior clubs in the area, he signed for Aberdeen before the Second World War (along with Willie Waddell, although it was the other player of the same name who had been his teammate at Strathclyde), but the war started before he had made the first team. He joined the British Army, but was captured and held as a prisoner of war. He escaped and lived with an Italian family as their "son". In 1989, he published an autobiography, ''Family of Four'', which described these experiences. Baird returned to Aberdeen before the end of the war.
