Strangers (podcast)
''Strangers'' is a podcast hosted by Danish-born producer Lea Thau. Initially part of KCRW's Independent Producer project, ''Strangers'' became a founding member of PRX's Radiotopia podcasting collective in 2014. Thau announced in November 2017 that Strangers would be leaving the Radiotopia collective. History After a decade as executive and creative director for the storytelling organization The Moth and having created both its short-form podcast and ''The Moth Radio Hour'', Thau was awarded a 2010 Peabody Award and radio station KCRW offered that she produce her own show. Lea's concept for ''Strangers'' was to bring strangers together to share stories. Thau kept creative control and only used KCRW to mix the final product. By 2017, the show had 500,000 monthly downloads, and two full-time employees besides Thau. Lea Thau
Lea Thau (born 1971) is a Peabody Award-winning producer and director. She is the host and producer of the podcast ''Strangers'' and the former Executive and Creative Director of The Moth. Biography Originally from Aarhus, Denmark, Thau moved to Paris at the age of 18, and then to New York at the age of 23 as a visiting scholar in Comparative Literature at Columbia University. While living in New York as a graduate student, Thau discovered the then-fledgling live storytelling show ''The Moth''. She began working for the organization in 2000 as a part-time employee, starting the organization's Community Outreach Program. In December 2001, she became the Executive and Creative Director, a position she held for a decade before departing in April, 2010. While in that position, she created the short-form ''Moth Podcast'' in 2008 and ''The Moth Radio Hour'' in 2009 with a broadcast launch to more than 70 public radio stations. English Language

KCRW
KCRW (89.9 MHz FM) is a National Public Radio member station broadcasting from the campus of Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California, where the station is licensed. KCRW airs original news and music programming in addition to programming from NPR and other affiliates. A network of repeaters and broadcast translators, as well as internet radio, allows the station to serve the Greater Los Angeles area and other communities in Southern California. The station's main transmitter is located in Los Angeles's Laurel Canyon district and broadcasts in the HD radio format. Radiotopia is a podcast network founded by ''99% Invisible'' host Roman Mars and run by the Public Radio Exchange. The network is organized as a collective of some two dozen shows whose producers have complete artistic control over their work. Podcasts in the network are downloaded more than 19 million times per month. The Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is a non-profit web-based platform for digital distribution, review, and licensing of radio programs. The organization is the largest on-demand catalogue of public radio programs available for broadcast and internet use. The Moth
The Moth is a non-profit group based in New York City dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. Founded in 1997, the organization presents a wide range of theme-based storytelling events across the United States and abroad, often featuring prominent literary and cultural personalities alongside everyday people like veterans, astronauts, school teachers, and parents. The Moth offers a weekly podcast and in 2009 launched a national public radio show, ''The Moth Radio Hour'', which won a 2010 Peabody Award. It was created in 1996 by former '' New Republic'' editor Michael Kinsley, initially under the ownership of Microsoft as part of MSN.
