Archie Strang (Australian Footballer)
Archibald William Strang (28 June 1887 – 18 September 1962) was an Australian football player in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL). Early life Strang was born to Jane (née Goodall) and Mathew Archibald Strang in Beaconsfield, Western Australia. Strang began his junior football career playing with Midland Locos Football Club and East Fremantle Juniors. Football career In 1906, at 18 years of age he made his seniors debut with East Fremantle Football Club. Strang was described as being rugged and big-hearted, with great football brains and whilst beginning his career on the wing being able to play any position. Strang represented East Fremantle for 18 seasons, playing 241 games and kicking 50 goals from 1906 till 1923. He played in a record 13 grand finals for six premierships in 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1914,and 1918. This remains the most grand final appearances by any WAFL player. John Strang (writer)
John Strang (10 February 1795 – 8 December 1863), born in Glasgow, was a writer and traveller; later in life he had a career in civic affairs in the city. Life Strang was the son of a wine merchant in Glasgow. He received a liberal education, and his studies particularly included French and German. When he was fourteen his father died, and in due course he inherited the business, for which he had little interest. In 1817 he spent some time in France and Italy, which gave him a liking for continental travel. When at home, he began to contribute to periodicals tales and poems translated from French and German. His youthful translations from the German of E. T. A. Hoffmann and others, were collected into a volume, and this introduced him to men of letters in London and in France and Germany. William Strang (footballer)
William Strang (16 September 1878 – 7 October 1916) was a Scottish professional footballer who played in the Scottish League for Celtic as a full back. He was described as a "robust full back with a lusty kick." Personal life Strang emigrated with his family to Calgary, Canada in 1905 and worked as a printer. On 21 August 1915, a year after the outbreak of the First World War, Strang enlisted as a private in the 56th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, falsifying his age to appear two years younger. He landed with the 31st Battalion in France in July 1916 and was promoted to the rank of acting lance corporal on 22 September 1916, while he was serving on the Somme. William Strang
William Strang (13 February 1859 – 12 April 1921) was a Scottish painter and printmaker, notable for illustrating the works of Bunyan, Coleridge and Kipling. Early life Strang was born at Dumbarton, the son of Peter Strang, a builder, and was educated at the Dumbarton Academy. For fifteen months after leaving school he worked in the counting-house of a firm of shipbuilders, then in 1875, when he was sixteen, went to London. There he studied art under Alphonse Legros at the Slade School for six years. Strang had great success as an etcher and became assistant master in the etching class. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, and his work was part of its first exhibition in 1881. Walter Strang
Walter Wilson Strang (15 April 1888 – 28 February 1944) was a New Zealand cricketer and businessman. He played one first-class match for Otago in 1929–30, when he captained the team in the final match of that season's Plunket Shield. Life and career Strang's father, Captain Robert Strang, was a ship's captain from Scotland who moved to New Zealand in the 1880s and held senior positions with the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. Sammy Strang
Samuel Strang Nicklin (December 16, 1876 – March 13, 1932) was a professional baseball player for the Louisville Colonels (1896), Chicago Orphans (1900 and 1902), New York Giants (NL), New York Giants (1901 and 1905–08), Chicago White Sox (1902) and Brooklyn Superbas (1903–04). He also played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers football, Tennessee Volunteers. Biography Strang was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He helped the Giants win the 1905 World Series. He led the National League in On-base percentage (.423) in 1906. In 10 seasons he played in 903 games and had 16 home runs, 253 RBI, 216 stolen bases and a .269 batting average. Robert Strang ONS (born 1959) is a Canadian physician and the chief medical officer for the province of Nova Scotia. Before becoming a doctor, Strang played rugby union for the Canada men's national rugby union team until retiring in 1991. Early life, rugby union career, and education Born in Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, Strang and his family moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick when he was five years old. Strang began playing rugby union in high school and played for the University of British Columbia's rugby team. He later played in New Zealand, but returned to Canada in the early 1980s to play for the Canada men's national rugby union team. Robert Strang (30 September 1901 – 15 March 1976) was an English cricketer, a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. Life He was born at Rainham Ledge, Hacton, Essex and educated at Whitgift School. Strang made his debut for Berkshire in the 1924 Minor Counties Championship against Cornwall, with him making three appearances that season. The following season, while studying at the University of Edinburgh, Strang made a single first-class appearance for Scotland against Ireland at College Park, Dublin. In Scotland's first-innings he scored 23 runs before being dismissed by Leslie Kidd, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for 11 by Jacko Heaslip. With the ball, he took the wickets of Derrick Hall and Arthur Douglas for the cost of 47 runs from 18 overs. Paul Strang
Paul Andrew Strang (born 28 July 1970) is a Zimbabwean cricket coach and former international player. A leg-spinning all-rounder, he played in 24 Test matches and 95 One Day Internationals for Zimbabwe between 1994 and 2001. He played Test cricket alongside his brother, Bryan Strang; their father, Ronald Strang, was a first-class umpire and was TV umpire for two of Zimbabwe's Test matches in 1994/5.
