Strandvik (municipality)
Strandvik is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. It existed from 1903 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed the southern part of present-day Bjørnafjorden Municipality in Vestland county. It included the inner part of the Bjørnafjorden. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Strandvik where the Strandvik Church is located. History On 1 January 1903, the parish of Strandvik was separated from the municipality of Fusa to form a separate municipality of its own. Initially, Strandvik had a population of 1,876. It was a small municipality and so in the early 1960s, the Schei Committee recommended that it be merged with two of its neighbors: Fusa and Hålandsdal. So, on 1 January 1964, Strandvik was merged with Hålandsdal and most of Fusa, creating a new, larger municipality of Fusa. Prior to the merger, Strandvik had a population of 2,053. Midhordland
Midhordland or Midthordland is a traditional district in the Vestlandet region of Norway. It consists of the central-west portion of the old Hordaland county (now part of Vestland county), mostly including the islands and coastal fjord areas surrounding (and including) the Bergen Peninsula. It includes the city on Bergen and the surrounding municipalities of Askøy, Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, and Øygarden. The region is dominated by its largest city, Bergen, which is also the second largest city in the country. There are no administrative functions for this district, it is simply a cultural and historical area. Until 2014, the Church of Norway had a deanery called Midhordland prosti, but that has since been dissolved and its churches transferred to other neighboring deaneries. Strandvik Church
Strandvik Church ( no, Strandvik kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bjørnafjorden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Strandvik. It is one of the churches for the Fusa parish which is part of the Fana prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1857 using plans drawn up by the architect Frederik Hannibal Stockfleth. The church seats about 450 people. History There has been a church at Strandvik since the Middle Ages. The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1263, but that was not the year of construction. The first church in Strandvik was a wooden stave church that was likely built in the early 13th century. Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Hålandsdal
Hålandsdal is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1903 until 1964. Schei Committee
The Schei Committee ( no, Schei-komitéen) was a committee named by the Government of Norway to look into the organization of municipalities in Norway post-World War II. It convened in 1946, and its formal name was (The 1946 Committee on Municipal Division). Its more commonly used name derives from the committee leader, Nikolai Schei Nikolai Andreas Schei (9 May 1901 – 25 May 1985) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. He was born in Førde as the son of Per Schei (1872–1960) and Johanne Schei (1874–1963). Fusa
Fusa () is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. It existed from 1856 until its dissolution in 2020. It was located east of the city of Bergen in the Midhordland region. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Eikelandsosen. Other villages in the municipality include Fusa, Holdhus, Holmefjord, Vinnes, Strandvik, and Sundvord. The Frank Mohn company's Fusa marine division is headquartered here, with almost 500 employees. Strandvik is a village in the municipality of Bjørnafjorden in Vestland county, Norway. The village lies on the northern shore of the Bjørnafjorden, about east of Osøyro (across the fjord) and about the same distance southeast of the village of Fusa.
