UFO (TV Series)
''UFO'' is a 1970 British science fiction television series about the covert efforts of a government defence organisation to prevent an alien invasion of Earth. It was created by Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson with Reg Hill, and produced by the Andersons and Lew Grade's Century 21 for Grade's ITC Entertainment company. A single series of 26 episodes (including the pilot) was filmed over the course of more than a year; a five-month production break was caused by the closure of MGM-British Studios in Borehamwood, where the show was initially made. Straker-Squire
Straker-Squire (also known as Brazil Straker) was a British automobile manufacturer based in Bristol, and later Edmonton in North London. The company was formed in 1893 at St Philips, Bristol, as Brazil, Straker & Co by the Irish engineer J.P. Brazil and the London motor agent Sidney Straker. In 1899 Sidney Straker joined forces with Edward Bayley and went into production of steam wagons, joining in partnership with L.R.L. Squire in 1904 and production reached 200 steam wagons by 1906. In 1907 the company moved into a new factory on Lodge Causeway, Fishponds, at first to manufacture commercial vehicles, including large numbers of early London Buses, and a French car design under licence. The company also produced and successfully raced a number of its own car designs. Anthony Othneal Straker (born 23 September 1988) is a semi-professional footballer who most recently played for National League South side Havant & Waterlooville. A defender or midfielder, he has also been capped on ten occasions by the Grenada national football team. The Nick Straker Band were an English pop music group from London, England, led by musician and vocalist Nick Straker. Several members of the band were also in New Musik, and the band's line-up consisted of Straker along with Tony Mansfield, Tony Hibbert, David McShearer, Pete Hammond and Phil Towner. Their song "A Walk in the Park" peaked at No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart in 1980, having previously been a substantial hit in Continental Europe in 1979. Granville Straker
Granville Straker (born September 12th, 1939) is a Saint Vincent-born American music businessman and record producer specializing in calypso music. He is known for his Brooklyn, New York-based record label Straker's Records, which he founded in 1971, as well as his production work for many of the artists signed to it. According to Mark Romano of AllMusic, Straker's Records "...defined major calypso and soca artists starting in the early '70s." Straker told record producer and researcher and Bill Nowlin that over a thirty year span his label released 600 to 700 albums, an excess of 1000 twelve inch records, and several thousand singles. Sir Louis Hilton Straker, KCMG (born 23 February 1944) is a politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from 2015 to 2020. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade from 2001 to May 17, 2005 when he was transferred to the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing during a cabinet reshuffle. Lester Paul Straker Bolnalda (born October 10, 1959) is a former professional baseball right-handed starting pitcher. He played two seasons for the Minnesota Twins in 1987-88. Straker is currently the pitching coach for the DSL Phillies. Career A ten-year minor leaguer, Straker went all the way to the 1987 World Series in his rookie year. As a young prospect, Straker was released by the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics. He made his major league debut with the Twins as their number-three starter behind Frank Viola and Bert Blyleven. Arthur Straker
Arthur Coppin Straker (12 August 1893 – 14 October 1961) was an English cricketer. Straker's batting and bowling styles are unknown. He was born at Hexham, Northumberland. He was educated at Harrow School and played in the 1909 and 1910 Eton v Harrow matches at Lord's as a lower-order batsman. Straker made his only first-class appearance for Cambridge University against Northamptonshire in 1913. In this match, he was dismissed for a duck by George Thompson in the university's first-innings, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for 21 runs by the same bowler. Straker later made appeared for Denbighshire, making his debut for the Welsh county in the 1933 Minor Counties Championship against the Yorkshire Second XI. Nick Straker (born Nicholas Bailey) is a London-born musician, who had hits in Europe and the US in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Career Straker joined his first band, called Stonehenge, in 1969. The band changed its name in 1971 to Matumbi, a reggae band signed to Trojan Records, but Straker left in 1974. Along with his friend, guitarist Dave McShera, Straker joined Pete Hammond (bass) and Phil Towner (drums) in a dance band playing working men's clubs and weddings. They then met American soul singer Limmie Snell, and the band became Limmie Funk Limited with Andy Gierus on guitar.
