Art Strahan
Art Strahan (born July 17, 1943) is a former American football player who played defensive end/defensive tackle for the Houston Oilers, Atlanta Falcons, Orlando Panthers, and Alabama Hawks. Early life Arthur Ray Strahan was born on July 17, 1943, in Newton, Texas. Strahan grew up in Houston, Texas. Strahan attended Booker T. Washington High School in Newton. He was the co-captain of his high school football team. College career Strahan played as a defensive end and offensive lineman for four years at the Texas Southern University. He made all-conference teams his last two seasons. Professional career Strahan played with the Houston Oilers of the American Football League in 1965. He then played for the Orlando Panthers of the Continental Football League in 1966 and 1967, their first two seasons in Orlando. Frank Strahan
Frank Strahan (2 July 18864 May 1976) was a senior Australian public servant. Between 1935 and 1949, he was Secretary of the Prime Minister's Department. Life and career Strahan was born in Fryerstown, Victoria on 2 July 1886. In November 1935, Strahan was appointed Secretary of the Prime Minister's Department. In the role, he became the first member of the Commonwealth Public Service to attend Cabinet when he attended a meeting of the Third Menzies Ministry in July 1941. In 1941 when the Department of External Territories was established (it was previously an office in the Prime Minister's Department), Strahan was named its Secretary. Strahan served in dual roles at the head of the Territories Department and the Prime Minister's Department until 1944, when J.R. Halligan was appointed to head the Department of External Territories. Freddie Strahan
Freddie Strahan (born 21 December 1938 in Kilmainham, Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish former professional soccer player. He is the only League of Ireland player to score for the Republic of Ireland against England during their 14 meetings since 1946. Career He played hurling with Kevin's Hurling Club until the age of sixteen and won a Dublin Minor Hurling Championship before he signed for Shelbourne F.C. in 1957. He won 5 caps for Ireland at senior international level. He represented the League of Ireland XI against Italy in May 1962. His international debut was against Poland in a 3–1 defeat on 10 May 1964 in Kracow, and he scored against England two weeks later. Strahan was awarded a benefit game in June 1966. George Strahan (colonialist)
Major Sir George Cumine Strahan (9 December 1838 – 17 February 1887) was a British military officer and colonial administrator, best known as the Governor of Tasmania from 1881 to 1886. Early life and military career Strahan was born on 9 December 1838 in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in the United Kingdom. After graduating from the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, he joined the Royal Artillery corps of the British Army as a lieutenant in 1857. Colonial career Strahan was assigned as '' aide-de-camp'' to the last two Lord High Commissioners of the Ionian Islands: William Ewart Gladstone (actually High Commissioner Extraordinary, later to become Prime Minister) and Sir Henry Storks. When Storks was appointed Governor of Malta in 1864, Strahan accompanied him and served his successor, Sir Patrick Grant, until 1868 when he was made chief secretary of Malta. George Strahan (Royal Engineer)
Colonel George Strahan (1839 – 7 January 1911) was a British army engineer who served in the survey of India and served as Superintendent of the Great Trigonometrical Survey from 1888 to 1894. Strahan was born in Ashurst, Surrey to William Strahan. After studying at Eton he joined the Addiscombe college in 1857. At Addiscombe George showed abilities in mathematics and drawing. Among his brothers, William joined the army, Aubrey joined the Geological Survey in Britain, Henry became a mayor of Hythe and another brother Charles followed William into India in the Bengal Engineers. George went to India in 1860 to join the Bengal Sappers and Miners, Roorkee. He then served in surveying for the Ganges Canal and in 1862 he moved to the Survey of India. His family moved to Perth, Western Australia in 1968, and he graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. Ronald Strahan (1922–2010) was a zoologist, historian and author of works on the fauna of Australia. Strahan graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1947, furthering his studies at Oxford and other universities in Hong Kong and New South Wales. He became director of Taronga Zoo in 1967 and joined the staff of the Australian Museum in 1974. He was the editor of major publications assembled by museum, and extensively involved in oversight of the National Photographic Index of Australian Wildlife which included ''The Complete Book of Australian Birds'' and ''The Complete Book of Australian Mammals''. Strahan also created travelling exhibitions, and wrote a series of essays on the history and work of the Australian Museum, ''Rare and Curious Specimens''. Samuel Cuningham Strahan (25 December 1944 – 21 December 2019) was a New Zealand rugby union player. He represented Manawatu at a provincial level, and represented New Zealand in the national team, the All Blacks.
