Storuman ( sma, Luspie, Ume Sami: ''Lusspie'') is a locality and the seat of Storuman Municipality in Västerbotten County, province of Lapland, Sweden with 2,207 inhabitants in 2010. It is situated by the Ume River, at the southeastern end of Lake Storuman. History It is believed that the first Swedish people who came to the area, were from Vilhelmina to the south and settled here around 1741. The place became known as 'Luspen', derived from a local river of the same name. Until 1912, the population of the village was about 40 inhabitants living in eight farms, but that changed when a railway station was built (Inland Line) around 1924. The village quickly grew and became known as an important centre for hydroelectric power and the timber industry. It later became a popular tourist spot as well. The heraldic shield (the weapon of the town) is a Wild man, based on the name of the village and the symbols of the strength and determination of the people of Lapland. Notable pe ... Storuman Municipality
Storuman Municipality (; sma, Luspie tjïelte; sju, Lusspie kommuvnna) is a municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Storuman. The parish Stensele was created as late as 1822. It was, together with the parish Tärna, made into a municipality in 1863. In 1903 Tärna was detached to form a municipality of its own. The local government reform of 1971 saw the reunification of Stensele and Tärnaby municipalities, thus forming Storuman Municipality with the name taken from its largest town. Tärnaby, a small village in the municipality, has fostered the internationally famous alpine skiers Ingemar Stenmark, Stig Strand and Anja Pärson. Västerbotten County
Västerbotten County ( sv, Västerbottens län) is a county or ''län'' in the north of Sweden. It shares the borders with the counties of Västernorrland, Jämtland, and Norrbotten, as well as the Norwegian county of Nordland and the Gulf of Bothnia. Lapland, Sweden
Lapland, also known by its Swedish name Lappland (, fi, Lappi, la, Lapponia), is a province in northernmost Sweden. It borders Jämtland, Ångermanland, Västerbotten, Norrbotten, Norway and Finland. Luleå Hockey/MSSK is a professional ice hockey team in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL), the top-tier of women's ice hockey in Sweden. They play in Luleå, a port city in northern Sweden, at the Coop Norrbotten Arena. The team is the most successful club in SDHL history, having been regular season champions for four consecutive years, 2015–2019, and winning the Swedish Championship five times in seven years, 2016 to 2022. Johanna Olofsson
Eva Johanna Carolina Olofsson (born 13 July 1991) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defender for Luleå HF/MSSK in the SDHL and the Swedish national team. She currently holds the record for most games for the Modo Hockey women's team, having played for the club from 2007 to 2019. Career Olofsson began play with Modo in the 2007–08 Riksserien season, notching one assist in 13 games. Ume River
The Ume River (Swedish: ''Ume älv'' or ''Umeälven'') is one of the main rivers in northern Sweden. It is around long, and flows in a south-eastern direction from its source, the lake ''Överuman'' by the Norway, Norwegian border within the Scandinavian mountain range. For large parts, the European route E12, also known as Blå Vägen (Blue Route), follows its path. It passes through Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve and Storuman (lake), Lake Storuman and drains into the Gulf of Bothnia on Sweden's east coast at the small town of Holmsund, and adjacent to the city of Umeå.
