Storming Heaven (comics)
''Storming Heaven'' is a comic strip created by Gordon Rennie and Frazer Irving, appearing on the British magazine '' 2000 AD''. It features battles between psychedelic superheroes. Characters *Dr Trips, based on Timothy Leary *Thomas Caliban, based on Charles Manson Plot In the early 1960s Professor Adam Laar tested his own experimental brand of LSD on himself, releasing superhuman powers. He assembled a group of superpowered hippies but the dark side of the era emerged in the form of a Charles Manson figure and a final battle ensued. Gordon Rennie
Gordon Rennie is a Scottish comics writer, responsible for ''White Trash: Moronic Inferno'', as well as several comic strips for '' 2000 AD'' and novels for ''Warhammer Fantasy''. Frazer Irving
Frazer Irving (born 1970) is a British comic book artist known for the series '' Necronauts'', published by the British magazine '' 2000 AD''. After breaking into the American market he has worked on a number of superhero titles, including a series of collaborations with Grant Morrison. Career A native of Ilford, Essex, Irving studied art at the University of Portsmouth, England, after which he took various temporary jobs in London. He worked on '' Storming Heaven'', a psychedelic tale based around Timothy Leary and Charles Manson (written by Gordon Rennie), and ''The Simping Detective'' and ''From Grace'' written by Simon Spurrier. He has done illustration work for RPG companies like Wizards of the Coast, Hogshead Publishing and Guardians of Order, as well as small press publications like ''The End Is Nigh''. ''2000 AD'' is a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic magazine. As a comics anthology it serialises stories in each issue (known as "progs") and was first published by IPC Magazines in 1977, the first issue dated 26 February. Since 2000 it has been published by Rebellion Developments. ''2000 AD'' is most noted for its ''Judge Dredd'' stories, and has been contributed to by a number of artists and writers who became renowned in the field internationally, such as Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Mike McMahon, John Wagner, Alan Grant and Garth Ennis. Timothy Leary
Timothy Francis Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) was an American psychologist and author known for his strong advocacy of psychedelic drugs. Evaluations of Leary are polarized, ranging from bold oracle to publicity hound. He was "a hero of American consciousness", according to Allen Ginsberg, and Tom Robbins called him a "brave neuronaut". As a clinical psychologist at Harvard University, Leary founded the Harvard Psilocybin Project after a revealing experience with magic mushrooms in Mexico. He led the Project from 1960 to 1962, testing the therapeutic effects of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin, which were legal in the U.S., in the Concord Prison Experiment and the Marsh Chapel Experiment. Charles Manson
Charles Milles Manson (; November 12, 1934November 19, 2017) was an American criminal and musician who led the Manson Family, a cult based in California, in the late 1960s. Some of the members committed a series of nine murders at four locations in July and August 1969. In 1971, Manson was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people, including the film actress Sharon Tate. The prosecution contended that, while Manson never directly ordered the murders, his ideology constituted an overt act of conspiracy. Before the murders, Manson had spent more than half of his life in correctional institutions. While gathering his cult following, Manson was a singer-songwriter on the fringe of the Los Angeles music industry, chiefly through a chance association with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, who introduced Manson to record producer Terry Melcher. Rebellion Developments Limited is a British video game developer based in Oxford, England. Founded by Jason and Chris Kingsley in December 1992, the company is best known for its ''Sniper Elite'' series and multiple games in the ''Alien vs. Predator'' series. Sister company Rebellion Publishing has published comic books since 2000, when it purchased '' 2000 AD'', the publisher of characters such as Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper. History Origins (1992–1999) Rebellion was founded on 4 December 1992 by brothers Jason and Chris Kingsley in Oxford, England. Andy Diggle is a British comic book writer and former editor of the weekly anthology series '' 2000 AD''. He is best known for his work on ''Adam Strange'' and ''Green Arrow'' for DC Comics as well as his creator-owned series '' The Losers'' and a run on ''Hellblazer'' for DC's Vertigo imprint, and for his stints on '' Thunderbolts'' and '' Daredevil'' at Marvel.
